I've just been checking through our pet passport and noticed in the description
of our dog, the white patches on her chin and chest haven't been added on(she's otherwise black, which is what has been written in).
All other info is correct on there,but is it best to get this added on?
Would this cause a problem coming back to the UK?
Sorry for the daft question, but we've never been abroad with a pet before :)

We've been taking our dog abroad for the last three years and the vet didn't write anything in the bit which days 'colour'. Nothing has ever been mentioned when having his passport checked on returning to UK. I think you would only have a problem if his microchip number didn't match the one in the passport.

My dog is described as Tan but she is brown and white.I don't think you need worry about it the only thing that is checked is the microchip.

First time this year for us too. If you are using the tunnel the operator told us to be at the Calais check point at least 1 hour and 15 minutes before our departure time as border and pet checks are so slow. Just a heads up others may have experience of this to guide you further. SUE

Put a picture of the Dog on page 5 of the Passport then there's no doubt about the one taken to the Pet Passport Office.

First time for us too! Re the Calais side, didn't know we had to be there 1.5 hrs before, so thanks for that. How about at Folkstone? Or is it just a case of you're going and goodbye!

No problem leaving UK we were told but it is the check at Calais. Normal recommendation for Eurotunnel is now 45 mins prior to departure but told to allow at least an extra 30 mins with a pet in your party if you want to make your booked crossing. The girl I booked it with over the phone as using Tesco vouchers said she used to work on the operations side of things and that Calais checks at the border were very slow now and even more so with a pet.

Hi,
Like any check in, how fast you go through depends on the time of year you are travelling; school holidays are slower. We were in pet reception the second week in May & were in & out in 5 mins

We’ve never been held up going through the pet reception either.

The tickets we get (travel vouchers) we get from the CCC clearly state you should be there 11/2 hours in advance if you have a pet.

Any hold-ups the Calais end are likely to be due to the number of people queuing to have their animals checked.

No checks the UK end.

But back to the original topic, the majority of the time at ferry check in the staff don't even see the dog, you get given the scanner and if it matches the passport chip number away you go......

Ditto in March, but if you turn up just behind a van full of puppies, all needing to be checked, you may have a long wait.

It is the matching of the chip number to that recorded in the passport that is the identifying check.

We used the P&O Dover-Calais crossing for the first time with our dog in June and returned last Friday (we normally use Poole-Cherbourg). It said to check-in 60 mins before, both ways. At Dover the dog was not checked at all (at Poole the pet passport and microchip are checked when you check-in) and at Calais it took about 15 mins to get through the French and U.K. passport checks, then less than 5 mins to do the dog stuff and check-in for the ferry. We were surprised to be given a form to show the dog’s passport had been checked etc. - not sure why that was as there were no further checks after that.
Just a point - after struggling to find the microchip one time, we now always check the location of microchip at the vets before we leave home and again before we leave Europe. They can occasionally move apparently, so it makes us feel more confident that we can now find the microchip pretty much straight away.
