I think many others must share our opinion as the Premiere Classe we stayed in scored 6.3 out of 10 - the same score as that at Ambouts where you say you stay.
This is what I remember we mentioned in our 'What don't you like..........' review last time:
1. Filthy and very worn maroon(????) carpets on the stairs.
2. Scuffed grey worn out wallpaper all the way up the staircase
3. A washbasin with a broken waste.
4. A shower which would only stay in one position
5. In that position the spray went directly to the curtain which was too short and was pushed out of the shower tray, flooding the whole bathroom and bedroom before OH realised.
6. Inadequate, washed out, greyish and thin towels
7. A rather grubby (and a bit smelly) toilet
8. Stained covers on the beds and very lumpy pillows
9. The main door closed at 9.00 pm and you had to find your way around the back to get back in
10. The 'extractor' in the bathroom had a loud hum which got under your skin
11. The room was airless and the window opening was so narrow that it wasn't possible to get fresh air into the room.
12. One electric socket was in a difficult to reach position
13. The bathroom light switch was miles away from the bathroom.
14. The only socket was nowhere near a mirror so it was impossible to dry my hair in the way I usually do.
15. Breakfast included tiny croissants, watered down orange juice, dry and tasteless bread. We could help ourselves from two slices of plastic ham or plastic cheese on a plate - which was replaced by another two slices of each when those two were taken............! There was plain yoghurt or plain yoghurt. The only fruit on offer was a couple of dried out oranges.
I think the whole hotel was suffering from lack of maintenance. So for us, what's not to like - well everything!
And that particular Premiere Classe cost us 62 euros, for the privilege - perhaps because it was Bastille Day. But for 41 euros this Bastille Day (and with a review score of 9.9 out of 10) we had a fabulous en-suite room with balcony, our own garden area with outside table and chairs. We had our own fridge with cold drinks, and space to put our own things which needed to stay cool. On arrival we were offered a glass of cider. The bedroom and bathroom were immaculate and the bathroom offered a full range of toiletries, soaps and shower cap. The breakfast, which was included offered fresh fruit from the garden, plain or fruit yoghurts, proper Bayonne ham, three types of cheese, selections of bread, croissants, pain au raisin (all full size) and brioche, home made jams and honey, and two complementary packs of flavoured tea when we left. Our room had a kettle, hairdryer, choice of several different pillows, extra bedspread and blanket(s), two proper comfortable chairs, a desk to work at, proper bedside lights, mirrors and loads of electric sockets.
As you say, what's not to like!

Yep Val, we use our own kettle in the room, which is a 1,600 watt model, ideal for filling our flask up with boiling water so that we can have a 3pm cuppa on the autoroute Aire, the water from the flask goes into our Waeco in car kettle, so that we can get a rolling boil, to make a cup off tea, the car kettle only takes 8 minutes to boil.
We were at Armbouts-Cappel Dunkerque last Thursday night, £31 and had a slap up meal in the Campanile restaurant which included a bottle of vin rouge and a couple of other drinks total bill for the meal was €38.
As for electric sockets we had two, one to run our Waeco CF25 Fridge, and the other I converted to a four gang with a plug in Sucko to UK adapter, so Mrs Francais could run her hair dryer, and charge up the Phone and iPad and charge the camera battery.
The room and hotel were all spot on, the only critique I could make, was that the double bed had a duvet on it, temps were at 30 C, so we discarded the duvet, and just used a single cotton sheet.
We arrive at these hotels around 6pm, go for a meal and then get to bed, no need for anything fancy, it’s just somewhere to get your head down for the night, and then back on the road the next morning.
They are a means to an end along the 1,100 mile journey to the main campsite and back again a fortnight later.
We have done Logis in the past, and yes they are beautiful, but they are no way as cheap as the Premiere Classe, and can be a faff to find.
and park, the Premiere Classe are close to the autoroute and easy to find and park, and that’s all we want for an over night stop.
We did use to use the Formule 1 hotels when they were €15 per night, now I will agree that they are definitely depressing places to spend a night, and would not ever entertain them again.
