please can anyone recommend a vet on the way back from la mans to Calais. leaving la mans on the 8th aug sailing on back to uk on the 10th , its for three spaniels. Thanks in advance

Generally speaking the further from Calais you see the Vet the more reasonable will be the price.

I’d see one in Le Mans a day or two before you return. You have 5 days now.

We’ve always just walked into a vets and asked for a pet passport check and all of them have spoken good English.

Also remember to take your own worming tablets with you as they are cheaper to buy in England than they are in France.

Yes you can take your own wormer it is only necessary that the vet witness it being administered - I think technically they should actually do it but a couple in recent years have delegated it to us under their supervision.

Came back in June - got our two seen by the vet in the local town 5 days before the ferry and I think they charged us fifty odd euros in total for both Including the wormers because we’d lost the ones we took with us - they were probably hiding next to the Post Office Foreign Currency card loaded with 500 euro we also carried around France without ever being able to find since I put them in a safe place in the ‘van!!!


Still not unreasonable for 2 dogs I didn’t think.

Yes, prices will have changed - one Vet that someone used last week was cheaper than 4 years ago.

The Vets on the Map are only a guide to show that each Vet is familiar with the Pet Passport scheme and if you wish to ring around to find the best price on your route north then please do so.

I would see a vet before you leave for the trip to Calais. The vet visit has to be done between 5 days and 24 hours prior to travelling, so leaving it until you get to Calais would mean then having to spend a whole day there.

Where in Le Mans area are you?

We tend to just google the local vets, and either call or email them for an appointment.

Personally I prefer to get things sorted on about 3 days before crossing its far less stressful than trying to find a vets at the last minute.

The campsite should be able to help you. They can also make the appointment if you feel that your language skills are not up to it. We have found that reception staff may not have any English.
