We normally head as far South in France as we can in order to be sure of the weather but the OH has suggested that we try the Vendee this year.  We will be going early in July.  What is the typical July weather like in that part?  Is it as temperamental as the South of England?  Will it rain?  What will the average day and night temperature be?

We visited the vendee a couple of years ago in June and it was 39 degrees at 9 pm!  Daytime temperatures were in the mid 40's. It was their hottest summer in history and boy did we know it.  Our friends children went to bed with freezer packs as it was so hot.  At the end of the holiday they did have a storm and an amazing thunder and lighting display but as it had been so hot leading up to it, it was a welcome break.  Hope the weather is good for you in the Vendee too.

If you want gaurannteed hot sun & no rain you really have to go to the Med area---the Vendee can be hot but it also rains--ie the weather can be changable-most agree the weather is best late Jul/Aug--but on balance-having visited the area every yr for years--I would say you will be ok-unless you are very unlucky--statistcaly this is one of the sunniest areas of France--when sunny you should get 24degC-can be much hotter--the evenings are genrally cool & fresh--

You cannot forecast the weather beyond, say, a week. Get real.

You pays yer money and takes yer chances.

We were there two years ago, Garangeoire. Hot, had the lightning display (about 10 miles away) and 22 drops of heavy rain. Downed a couple of bottles of wine that night watching the campsite go from pitch black to Daz White.

Going again in July to the same place.

Bring it on, not too worried about the weather. Got Angela Birds' book on The Vendee the other day. Brilliant.

Have done the Vendee for years and always in June ....have had more hot fortnights than wet ones and have seen the temperature hit 36 at 1030 am.  I have also left the Vendee in June to go south to get away from the rain ...just to run into worse weather . ..will be there again in 3 weeks and will be happy to take what  comes  our way.

We went to the Vendee last year in June.Didnt rain once and was not too hot at night. Some of the brochures that promote the Vendee say "the weather of the South of France, without the drive".We found the South of france hotter though, but plan to go back to the Vendee.

Have fun

Have been to the Vendee twice, the first time we had only one day of rain (August) and lovely warm days and nights.

Last year we went back, but the weather was changeable to say the least. Quite a few chilly-ish days and lots of rain. Plus a mega thunderstorm!

Good luck.

WE've had a mixed bag of weather in the vendee. Been three years running in July/Aug. First year was not good - lots of cloud and 3 days and nights when it didn't stop raining at all. Second year marginally better but still quite a bit of rain although when the sun did shine it was really hot. Last year we managed to hit on a good fortnight and had lovely sunny warm weather for 2 weeks.

We have come to the conclusion that if it is rainy & cold in devon/cornwall it is probably cool & rainy in vendee too - but that when it is sunny you really feel the difference in the temperature compared to Devon/cornwall. You do really feel the sun's heat and it is lovely.

We we have been to the Vendee 3 times and are planning to go again this year.  We always go between July and August.  The first year the weather was wonderful.  The second year it rained heavily for 13 of the 14 days we were there and the third time the weather was great again!
