Hello
Currently in Navarranx, would like to move up to La Rochelle for final few days before heading home. Anyone got any recommendations for a site. Ideally close to town and sea.
Maybe even lie de Re
Thanks
Johnt

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
No campsite I can recommend at La Rochelle itself, but two decent ones (Port Punay and Camping Ocean) at Chatellaillon Plage to the south, a reliable municipal (Rayonnement) at Rochefort sur Mer, another (Le Cadoret) at Fouras which we like, and dozens on tne Ile de Re - which will be busy.
- not stayed personally but it has a bus route into the centre nearby.
I doubt whether anywhere will be busy and most sites will be winding down to closure sometime in September.
Excellent location next to a great beach. Good restaurant, bar and takeaway. Pitch prices usually down a bit next week.
May be worth visiting La Rochelle on the way (2 hours round the old harbour should be enough) so you don't have to pay the toll on the bridge more than once (about 16 euro - you only pay to go onto the island - it's free from the island to the mainland).
Otherwise there are buses to and from La Rochelle - pretty sure there is a stop a few hundred yards from the site on the main road.
We'll be there a week on Monday in a static for 6 nights for our annual dose of sea air/ sea swimming / oysters etc.
