There is a very nice site in Bourges called Camping Robinson, it’s easily accessible from the motorway, it’s on ACSI. It’s perfect for a comfortable overnight stop over.

There’s a good site (also ACSI) at Blere, (beyond Tours) riverside and in a small town, close to various chateaux. We had a few days there in May (review left on here) and would recommend. May not be far enough on the way for you though.
We ended up staying at Le Moulin Fort just beside Chateau Chenonceau. It’s been great. Lovely walks, great cycling, little cafe on site which is cheap and super cheerful. I’ll send a long review at some point.
Anyway, we depart tomorrow, Sunday, hoping to get in a good bit of driving when the roads are less busy without the trucks.
Hoping to get as far as Millau off the A75. Looks like some nice places to see and visit and looks like lots of camp sites. Anyone got any advice on a good spot???

Well, for those who might be following our journey, we crossed into Spain today and arrived at Camping Amfora. We were lucky to get a pitch as the entire place is about full. The two other camp sites in this Roses / Sant Pere Pescador area replies to my inquiry that they had not one single spot!!! This site is not on the ACSI App but they took my ACSI card and gave me ‘the ACSI price’. We got a pitch with direct water hook up and drainage so it’s not too bad. Cost : €23 /night. I think they charged for the dog but I wasn’t going to argue as we were relieved to get a spot in the area at all. This place is truly vast and I’ll write a full review at some stage. There are more ‘residents’ here than in my home town 😱😱. Truth!! It’s a maze and it’s tight and without a motor mover, I don’t know what one would do. There are little sticky burrs all over and the dog is covered. We spent ages picking them off his coat but I suspect we will be doing it all again tomorrow. A few mosquitoes or sand flies or some ‘noseeums’ about for sure. By the time we got set up, it was getting late and dark and off for dinner at the on site restaurant which was super duper slow, cheap and cheerful ... and we won’t go again as it just takes too long.
Will hit the 12km long Beach tomorrow and get a walk and a swim and report back. It’s still very hot here so thinking seriously of switching to the Spanish siesta system...
Hasta Mañana.

Glad you got there safely but sorry to hear about the crowded sites and the terrible flood damage further down the coast. That might be causing the crowding where you are.
Here in Brittany this week the weather is just as good as Spain - blue sky and bright sun - and yet along the coast in mid week right now there is scarcely anyone one about - other than the usual scatter of motorhomes lurking in the dunes .
Everyone seems to have gone to Spain. Do the campsites here in Brittany close because no one comes, or does no one come because the campsites close?
Hi Netherton, you make many good points which we will consider for our next trip. With the good weather up where you are in Brittany, indeed, it is badness to travel so far South as we have done. This place, Amfora, is a whole town in itself. I now understand what a ‘German Juggernaut’ looks like. There are some monsters here. This is a very German site. Clearly some places are magnets for certain nationalities. It’s all super organized with rules and regulations galore. One has to wear a wrist band at all times for example. Even to get onto the beach... and then back in again. I’ve been lost now several times and one would nearly need to carry the map of the ‘town’ just to find one’s pitch again.
I’m rather envious of the peace and quiet you are telling us about in Brittany. Not to mention the long drive we will have to get back to our ferry in Cherbourg.
However, here we are and I’m off for a swim. The beach is vast.. 12km long. I can’t teally see that’s it’s safe for toddlers or the little ones. There is a ‘drop off’ in the sand into the water. But it’s fairly calm and I do enjoy my swims in the ocean ( couldn’t care less about the pools ( of which there are several options here)).
We still intend to venture on South as planned and we are this far so might as well. We will seek a smaller quieter spot though. I did get a recommendation earlier for Alcobresse (??) so will look that one up. Looked like a perfect spot for us.
BTW it’s cooking here... sun screen, shade and siestas are the order of the day.
