Could anyone give some inspiration for next Summer? We have camped in France for about 10 years and have done Brittany/Vendee/Hendaye/Loire/St Emillion and Royan area. Every year we decide to look for something new but we can never find what we want so usually end up back in the same sort of area. We are very picky about our campsites!! Our age range of children will be 17 to 6 so ideally we need a campsite with a range of activities. We are happy to start one stopover south so around 8 hours from one of the Brittany ferries port and we usually do around 8-10 days in two campsites. Eg this year we stayed at La Guyonniere in the Vendee which we loved and then Mane Guernehue in South Brittany before sailing back from Caen. We like a very large pitch, good pools and sports during the day but quiet at night. We're not too bothered about being near the beach this year. Any ideas?? Thanks.

Why not venture inland and try out the rivers. So many lovely areas to choose from such as the Tarn Gorge or Ceze River. Camp near Pont du gard and swim and canoe under the aquaduct. There are also the falls of Sautadet, there is a nice campsite on the banks there called Camping Les Cascades de Sautadet which is lovely.
Once you go further south of the Vendee, you get to see how much more of France is worth seeing.

Thanks good ideas but maybe a little too far south for us. We are a little squashed in the car hence making a 4 hour drive pretty much the maximum that is bearable!

Try another country?

Overnight ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland , or from Hull if you wish, then 100 mile drive to Camping de Paal - it has all the things on your wish list - except southern sunshine, but you say you don't want to drive far enough south for that.

Thanks. It looks a nice campsite. Something to think about. We've also stayed in the Vosges Mountains and then Camping Birkelt in Luxembourg sailing back from Zeebrugge. We loved Camping Birkelt and I really liked the Vosges mountains but it was a bit too remote for the teenage element of our family!

I loved the Auvergne a few years ago. It's reachable with a stopover, we stopped in Burgundy for 3 days on the way out and visited Guedelon, then did a week in the Loire on the way back.

Lots of mountains, lakes- it's quite a French touristy area so prices were a little higher. We stayed at the Sunelia Ribeye site which has an excellent pool, private lake and activities so really good for older kids and teenagers. There are many other sites around though.

Thanks. That looks like an ideal site. I need to do a bit of research on the area as I don't know it at all but it's certainly a possibility.

Try Camping Le Paradis at St Leon sur vezere in the Dordogne, a beautiful site in a lovely area with loads to do on site and in the area. Great pool area, bar, restaurant, Tennis, gym, activities for everyone, immaculate sanitaires. In my mind it’s the best campsite in France. You could do a site in the vendee first then it’s a 4 hour drive over to this site.

If you haven't been before, the Dordogne has plenty to do for everybody - canoeing on the river, boat trips on the river, castles, gardens, fab views.

Personally would recommend La Bouysse near Sarlat - right on the river - has its own canoe hire, big pitches (at least 10m x 10m - some considerably larger), pool, bar, take away, easy access to big Supermarket in Sarlat on a quiet road (main ones can be pretty busy in season).

Handy if you've kids with such an age range as it's next door to Soleil Plage campsite and there's a path connecting la Bouysse to the bar / restaurant at SP - pool table / table tennis very popular with teenagers.

Last time one of our teenagers (as was) was with us, he and several others would slope off to SP for a couple of hours in the evening.

I would agree with that sentiment, it is probably the best site we have stayed on and as well as all the facilities it is also very relaxed and friendly.
