Definitely France (Loire or Dordogne), Netherlands or Ireland are the obvious better places to go with limited or no language skills (although you may find the Irish hard to understand

It may be me but I always find it amusing with recommendations to go to Cities when going on holiday - that is my idea of Hell. Then I love the countryside and open spaces.

Wherever you decide the country will be lovely and the people equally so. As has been said all Europeans know us Brits are rubbish with languages and have learnt to speak English to accommodate us.

I remember talking to a waiter in a small bar in Greece and during the conversation he mentioned that he spoke seven languages. I said that I was amazed and he replied that that was what his job required and he couldn't work without it.

Agree with Pixie Hez- Brittany is fabulous but along with Normandy (equally good for a first time visit and very used to Brit visitors in the last few years so plenty of English speakers) it does depend a bit on your weather expectations and when you plan to travel.
If you want reliably hot weather you may be better heading to the Vendee or Dordogne.
That said, the last few years in late June/ early July we've had high 20s in southern Brittany, 30s (too hot for us!) in the Sarthe and 30s in the Loire. But we also had torrential rain and a chilly day in the Vendee!

Hi Tentpeg,as you can see from the replies there are one or two opinions!
Personally I think it would help us to help you if we had a bit more info on dates,ferry routes, length or trip, preferences re sites etc.
Have been to France many times but as mentioned Holland is a great place with good sites and plenty of variety.
It is also a little different in that you may spend a long time before seeing other Brits, unlike most popular tourist parts of France so feels a bit more adventurous.
A few years ago we stayed in South Holland, near Breskens, and were the only Brits on a very large site with hundreds of pitches.

Yet another option for first timers who are concerned about the language problem is to go to an overseas campsite with British owners - they tend to be down the western side of France and in rural locations.

Don't worry, the Irish are as easy to understand as the Welsh, the Scottish or the English. Thousands of students travel to Ireland to learn English!
Just like your own country there are different accents in different parts of Ireland. I recently met a couple from Yorkshire with a motor home who were enjoying the beautiful weather here last week. They told me it was their sixth time in Ireland and each time they went to a different part. They were playing golf in beautiful Killorglin GC (green fees €30)

2 lovely camps sites for you, both English owned and both reviewed on here. one in the Loire north of Saumur and easily reachable but afternoon after a night ferry to Caen/St Malo for instance , Le Chant D'Oiseau, small with a lovely pool , meal nights, lovely welcome with a cup of tea, one of our favourites.
The other one is further south Camping Bellevue, close to Hautefort and with a beautiful view or the Hautefort Chateau. Again a small site , with meal nights, warm welcome and cup of tea on arrival. Lovely pool.
Both in beautiful quiet countryside but within reach of larger towns.

my french skills are basic to say the least as are my spanish skills.

we holiday both in france and spain and have absolutely no problems.

moreover i work all over the world and have never had any problems.

learn a few phrases in the language, use google translate app on your phone.

we rent a villa in spain and the lady who looks after it speaks no english and our spanish is rudamentary. we have communicated using google translate, you can speak into it and it will convert speach to text then translate it to spanish or english. it works.

we have used campsites in france such as yelloh! village, castells, MS vacances and all of the staff speak english.

dont be worried, go there and enjoy it, the weather, the culture, the people and the food!
