There is a new update to Archies Campings on line today. (www.archiescampings.eu) For those not familiar with it, this is a website with files of POI's for more than 33,000 campsites throughout Europe, which can be downloaded and installed on most types of SatNav. There is access to an App which can be used on smartphones, or tablets, and used when not on-line.

Archie has been doing a lot of work on UK sites, because users have complained that not all UK sites take tents, and that a lot of the sites listed (Club sites) were members only. As a result these sites will be a separate download from other UK sites.

Other updating work has gone ahead as usually, changing opening dates, phone numbers, etc.

Please share this post with any other forums where you think it provide useful information. As well as camping and caravanning, these could includ motorbike groups, hiking groups, etc.

Much as I admire the diligence of Archie and his helpers who complie this information, a list of 33,000 campsites really does seem like overkill. I know where I want to go in the south of France so all I need is a couple of overnight stops on the way - and I can find those two easily enough from other sources without Archie offering me 32,998 others. Am I being ungracious to him?

I must say that I find the app very useful, I know where I’m heading as my main destination but as far as overnight stops I tend to just drive until I feel I want to stop, then I open up the app and look at the local options. It works for me anyway.

Short answer: Yes

Longer answer: It's not compulsory to use it. Lots of people seem to find it useful. It doesn't only cover France. Some people don't go to the Souuth of France.

I'd agree, 'Yes' you are being ungracious. If you don't need it (we don't - although I do some behind the scenes work for 'Archie') then don't use it, but it is very useful to those people who do use it and they very much appreciate the hard work which is involved in keeping all this information up to date.

As a lover of the internet, imagine how difficult it would become if no one updated anything, ever, and it remained as it was when the internet was established.

Someone has to keep all the information on the internet up to date - it doesn't happen electronically - someone, somewhere has to type it all in!!! Please don't knock those who do!

Yes, you can have an app.

You can download the App for smartphones of any sort - and it comes with free lifetime updates.
