Well, having stayed in the UK last year, mainly due to the uncertainty over dog paperwork, it looks as if we shall end up doing the same in 2020!

Don't get me wrong - we had a lovely time travelling around the country, but we would still prefer to go to France.

We’ve just done it and are now overwintering in Spain, we’ve done nothing different with the dog, no extra jabs, no blood tests. Will investigate a Spanish passport but my view is all the extra guff is to get the dog into Europe not UK but we’ll see what happens next March when I get back to the docks. There must be hundreds if not thousands of dogs abroad now that normally reside in UK and I’m guessing others have done nothing like me............ just go for it

If we let all the uncertainty about Brexit affect our plans we might never go to Europe ever again! Please don't let it affect your plans for a second year.

Either get all the 'possible' extra paperwork (rabies blood test, certificate of fitness to travel) and know that you're covered in any eventually, or do what many others are doing - nothing!

You cannot get a certificate of travel till 10 days before you travel and we must be out of the EU, if not you cross useing your pet passport. No one knows about coming back as the UK has not decided what you will need, I think there will be a a period of time when nothing will change.

I agree, the pet passport scheme was set up by UK border Force, so enabling the UK to join the rest of the 21st century in allowing dogs to travel. We need the passport to return to the UK, that is when it is checked. I doubt very much if UK border force will change the rule they set up.

I agree, it remains to be seen how EU countries might try to "penalise" us after (if?) we ever Brexit. Somehow, I dont think they are stupid enough to shoot themselves in the foot. They want our custom.

When Brexit was scheduled for April,
Defra informed me that any pet leaving before the deadline (then 12th April) could go out on the current passport, and could return on the current passport at any time after that (with usual tapeworm treatments etc).

It's likely the same ruling will apply so, since you're already in Spain, your dog will be allowed back into the UK on the passport they travelled out on (so long as it's still valid).

The OP is in a different boat, since outward /inward travel rules for pets may be affected if and when Brexit comes about.

We’ve had the blood test done but I doubt we’ll need the certificate of fitness to travel now as we’re going in December. It’s coming back that could be tricky. What we’re more concerned about is the 90 day limit to being abroad.

Thanks to our useless Government we are now booking to go to France with our dog over New Year and expect no problems with the Pet Passport on our return.

I know many of you have helped the Vet's Christmas Fund by having the blood test done but we will wait until we know exactly what will happen when, or if, Br*xit comes to fulfilment.

Meanwhile my cash remains in my pocket.

We haven’t had a 90 day limit for years. This is something new depending on how we leave the EU. Maye we had it before we joined, I don’t know, I didn’t gonabroad for long then as I was working.

Your figures don’t work, you would need three months between December and your next trip.
