Hello.

Looking to go camping in South France, near Agde or there abouts.

Seaviews would be nice as would beach access.

Not bothered about electric, just a nice site with clean facilities.

Not bothered about a pool etc but not against it.

Thanks.

On the eastern end of Cap d'Agde is Marseillan Plage, a very long strip of beach with campsites behind it,some of which are naturist. I haven't stayed at any of them, but have used the beach on occasion, at the other side of Agde across the Herault river is Camping La Tamarissiere behind he dunes, a very 'French' site. We haven't stayed there. Further west is Le Boucanet which has direct beach access, and we've stayed there many times, but not been back for years because the lovely beachside pitches were all taken up by mobile homes and the site had a cramped feeling. Further along still is Vias which has a number of sites with access to the beach.

We've spent a lot of time in Agde, over a lot of years, but it's become busier and noisier and changed for the worst over those years. In summer traffic can be bad - almost as bad as the eastern end of the Mediterranean - so a happy stay there does depend on the dates you'll be visiting.

we often stay at
Mèze
It is just to the east of the frenetic Agde/Marseillan Plage area.
Good facilities but not flashy

We stayed at Camping de la Clape, ACSI no. 2481. Nice site with a back gate out to the prom.

We have stayed on a couple of sites by the River at Le Grau d’Agde. We initially went there once in June o 6 years ago, the last 5 we have been stuck going in school holidays. We were expecting it to be exceptionally busy July and August but it has never been too busy. The site last July was the quietest we have ever seen and this was towards the end of July. Granted some Dutch were arriving as we were leaving but we were surprised how quiet it was. Maybe Brexit played a role? Only once have we ever been stuck in traffic and this was last year but we hit the area on a weekday morning at rush hour.

We have queued all the way from the autoroute junction when staying on a site at Grau d'Agde - so things must have changed since we were last there. We worked out a cross-country route from the junction near Pezenas, to avoid most of the traffic and friends or ours have used that route too.

Wow Val that’s horrific!! In the past we have usually approached the area mid afternoon and mostly travelled in from A75 on the main route. Last time was the worst we had seen it but it was a Monday. We had in the past expected to of got stuck in traffic but we must of been lucky as we seem to of missed it!

We did note that in 2017-2018 the town of Agde (old city) looked like it had gone downhill so we didn’t venture that was as much last year.

Likewise last year we went to Ramtuelle having not been for years. It was always busy in June but last July we got to the beach without hold ups. The motorway was a little iffy but I think we had some good luck that way too!!
