Sue, Are the teenagers voting? We once had teenagers too.
There are unsupervised surfing beaches on the Cote Sauvage further south than the Vendee which suited them , nudist beaches always interested them too, canoeing on the Dordogne was ever popular, but lakes they found boring, they did also prefer sites with swimming pools and discos, though my teenage girls just wanted sites where Dutch boys were around.
Or is it the drivers who are voting ? they may have limits on how far they want to go.
I wouldn't let the dog have a vote. He goes where he is taken.

No, teenagers not really getting a vote !
We started with the Ardeche, thinking river gorges for a bit of water sports and excitement, and then one of the group threw in the idea of lakes as generally the areas surrounding are more suitable for family cycling.
Having done the coast a few times we are fairly committed to be over the other side a bit more, and other members of the group are heading of to the east of Lyon after. I’ll look at the Dordogne and some more at Ardeche. We’ll be stopping on the way down anyway,.
Dog doesn’t get a vote either, but like being the only ones with a new baby, we want to limit the restrictions ie beach access.
Will be avoiding anywhere with a disco, but pools are a must, and I suspect a lot could change in the lives of teenagers in 6 months ?!,

I'd recommend the Ardeche! We store our caravan there, and love the area! Find a riverside site and your dogs can keep cool in any amount of heat.
I'll come back and write more later, but my cooking alarm is going off!

Hi,
Tarn gorges around Millau is another possibility, we’ve stayed at Les Rivages a few times & although the dog can’t go on the beach area you can get in the river further along. Last year we stayed at a site just outside Vaison-la-Romaine in Provence, Camping Voconce, which was on a river with no restrictions for the dog, amazing views of Mount Ventoux but probably useless for teenagers!

See plenty of dogs in the Dordogne, especially at the river beach between Soliel Plage and La Bouysse at Vitrac a few miles south of Sarlat.
Good for river swimming and canoeing - plenty of cycling and walking routes in the valley.

Val A, thanks. do you take dogs with you ? We are reading that there is a general restriction on dogs on the waterside of the Ardeche ?
Sorry for the delay, got a bad cold, on top of a busy day, so not at my best.
Yes, we sometimes have my son's dog with us, and we've never come across any 'dogs not allowed' - he's even been with us on the beaches at the Pont d'Arc. Sometimes there is a warning about the water quality (after heavy rain) but that's it. The campsite we store our caravan on has access to the river Chassezac and the dog has spent hours in the water there. I suppose in peak season things may be different. Where did you read that dogs weren't allowed near the water.
