Hi, Has anyone arranged travel insurance for Europe in the last week or so? Has the C virus affected your quotation or premium? Has mention been made of that at all when speaking to a company?
We hope to travel in a couple of weeks but are leaving ferry, insurance and destination until the last minute. Any insights welcome.

I had a quote yesterday for my annual policy which renews early April. No real increase other than what you'd expect. About £8 up I think for our family policy.

Someone on another forum posted recently that their insurance company won’t cover anything to do with the Coronavirus. If they decide to cancel their upcoming trip because of it, they won’t get any refunds through their travel insurance.
However, I am not overly concerned about this aspect as we haven’t spent that much so far, only really booked the ferry and a few nights at one site. What I am concerned about and can’t seem to find any information on, is what happens if we travel to Europe and catch the virus and end up needing hospital treatment. If the insurance company refuses to cover anything to do with Coronavirus does that mean they won’t pay for those medical expenses which could end up being quite a lot!
I think in that instance you would be covered by your EHIC card, just make sure that you have one. I should add that you should get them from the official government site and not from an an online scammer that will charge you for it.
I renewed ours last week and they arrived in 2 days.

Thank for the replies. We always have our E111 and have also used travel insurance through a bank account, which has now lapsed. Was just asking for general feedback before getting a new quote.
E111 doesn't cover everything eg repatriation, should it ever be necessary. Not panicking; being realistic. I have an insurance background so am ultra cautious with policies.
Cancellation is normally only covered if the FCO advise only essential travel to a certain area. Which is probably unlikley to be the case for any European destinations, at least for a while.
Health/illness cover should still be fine though. Mine says on their website that it is if you get hospitalisied with Covid-19 infection.
Not had to take out a new policy, thoguh so no idea on costs

The moment we pay for the ticket or pay a deposit for a holiday, we take out insurance. That way if either of us fall ill prior to leaving, we are covered.
