Planning ahead again....
Musing on the 'stay for a night' scheme in the UK where you can stay for a night in a camper or motorhome in a pub car park as long as you buy a meal in their restaurant. Step son has been doing this during the summer and found some crackers including one on our doorstep which meant an unexpected visit (lovely surprise!) Anything similar in France?
Alternatively can anyone recommend village aires in walking/mobility scooter distance of restaurants. We found one by accident in St Goustain, near Auray in Brittany, but thinking more of Dordogne/Bergerac/Bordeaux for next year or maybe somewhere near le Mans/Tours for a stop off.

Many if not most villages in France have a campervan aire, where you can stay for the night. Some you pay a modest amount, most you don't. Some have some sort of facility, some don't. Often they are just a sort of car park.
There is a book listing these, we can't use them as we don't have facilities in the 'van. I'm sure someone will tell us the name of the book.
We have used the Aire for camping cars for years and buy the book from

They have lots of great books for all over Europe.

France Passion is probably the nearest equivalent to the "stay for a night" scheme you mention: https://www.france-passion.com/en/
Mostly vineyards, but also farms, restaurants and other places. No purchase is necessary when you stay (though obviously they are hoping you will!). Even areas well served by aires de camping car, the FP places are often much nicer. Its well worth the £25ish per year membership (well, normally it is, not so much this year of course now that we're having to cancel our holiday for a second time this year).
