On two occasions we have been sitting in the caravan having a sandwich, in a motorway service are in France.
A young woman, who looked like a Romany, knocked on the caravan door, and asked for hot water for her Pot Noodle.
Different women , in different parts of France.
Genuine?

That’s quite bizarre, as when we have been on the French service areas, I have gone into the cafe and asked if it’s OK for me to fill my flask up with boiling water from one of the coffee machines, and it has always been fine and no charge.
We stopped in a layby in Southern France for a break a few years ago. There was an old uk reg Rover there.
A lady of distinctive Roma appearance came over and spun us a tale of having no fuel money, showing me a broken bank card! So could we help?
I suggested she call the emergency number on the card! We then drove off.
Maybe harsh but I wasn't born yesteday!
Another occasion we parked in an autoroute service for break near some coaches.
Several Chinese or Japanese ladies came over, peering in the van. Lots of pictures taken! One wanted to come in to look as my wife had gone in to the fridge.
As it was hitched up we politely said no.
Another UK guy nearby said he had the same visit, as had a dutch motorhomer!
Obviously they had never seen a caravan

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Irrelevant what they look like. Any approach as described should be treated as possible distraction robbery attempt. Assume that & you don’t have to think. Just say no politely but firmly & do not engage further. That way the individual concerned will go & try to find an easier touch than yourself.

At the very least, you could have sellotaped her card back together for her!

Sadly it is a community that all too often makes it's livelihood at the expense of others of a more honest and charitable nature, so I would regard any approach with deep suspicion. After all, hardly noted for their neighbourliness and integration into wider society, so not a lot of give and take in the same manner of support as the general leisure camping community!
