Might have been 6yrs ago we went from Cherbourg to the Dordogne.stopped at around 6pm a very basic but adequate site. Perfect. Just a few minutes off the route
Hopefully going again next summer and would like to stop there again. Cant remember the name
This is what i remember. Ran by an Old lady none English speaking. Helped by her grandson.
Birds in a cage at the front . No real facilities but good toilets and showers. It backed on to the river, used a lot by cyclists
Any ideas.?😉

Did the poole to Cherbourg route so docked 1.30 pm ,french time.cant really remember the route. ,only know it would have been the quickest via motorways.
Really just hoped it would ring a bell with someone.
The caged birds were the the thing I thought might be the thing that jogged somone memory

Camping Du Bois Vert at Parthenay, as Franbee suggests, certainly fits your description ... we were there in 2016 (see link to my review, below ... it might trigger memories?) ... birds in cages on both sides of the entrance ...
Think you'd be pushing it to do Cherbourg to Parthenay in 4 and a half hours and it isn't just off a main route from Cherbourg to the Dordogne if you're going for the quickest route via motorways.
Camping le Bec de Cisse is a 2 star camping.
It is 3 hours drive from Cherbourg ferryport.
It backs on to a river.
Near the Autoroute.
Lots of birds, chickens and insects feature on the photo gallery.
It ticks a lot of boxes?
The search goes on!
Think I started an interesting debate. I really think le bec de cisse might be it. Weirdly I think I recognise the young man behind reception.
Thank you for all the suggestions.
