Parthenay have birds at the entrance, near the river. Had a cycle hire place there. Nothing else matches.
Maybe a reminder to folk to write a review for every site you use. Simples.

Do you know which river it was? Was it wide or fairly narrow at that point?
I would probably try Google earth with a bit more information

Camping Du Bois Vert at Parthenay, as Franbee suggests, certainly fits your description ... we were there in 2016 (see link to my review, below ... it might trigger memories?) ... birds in cages on both sides of the entrance ...

Think you'd be pushing it to do Cherbourg to Parthenay in 4 and a half hours and it isn't just off a main route from Cherbourg to the Dordogne if you're going for the quickest route via motorways.

True - but could work the other way - they docked at 1:30 but as we know, disembarkation can take up to an hour.
Other info given by the OP tends to say it isn't Parthnay - such as lack of facilities whereas Bois Vert has a bar / takeaway & swimming pool.
Unless the OP shows up again I guess we'll never know..............
