Whilst I still can, I am looking at trying to work on a French campsite for a few hours each day in the 2021 season. Has anybody had any experience of how to obtain a volunteer or paid worker post. Looking to work in the Dordogne region.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Any official employment with a French employer would need him to apply to the French Ministry of Labour for a work permit for you. With Brexit in full swing from 1st January 2021 a French employer is not likely to take you on.
On the other hand you might be able to get unofficial employment at a site over there with British owners - and that might be unpaid or for a backhander of pocket money only.
The final Brexit terms are still not known but it seems likely there will be a 90 day limit for British visitors going over there so you may well only be able to stay on a site for that length of time.
It is usually done on a casual basis. Ie you get a free pitch on the site in return for a bit of work like cleaning toilets etc. You need to make sure it don’t turn into slave labour though. You are probably most likely to get this sort of work on a Dutch owned campsite of which there are plenty in France. They probably won’t be bothered if your French is not that good.
Obviously site owners like this sort of setup because it is cheaper than employing locals on the books.
Search the websites of Dordogne campsites. You can spot the Dutch owned ones by the owner’s names. They invariably speak good English.
Hi Colinvans. Dutch owned site in the Dordogne usually requires casual summer workers & probably won’t worry too much about your French language skills. The casual workers are mostly Dutch students but there have been Brits working there as well at Le Couderc. Very busy site with almost 100% Dutch campers with plenty of Brits as well. Very few French campers. The owners all speak fluent English & so do most of the Dutch campers.
Optional. Usually shorts while cleaning toilets. Dressed in the bar in the evening but so are all the campers. Optional at bar in afternoons depends on weather. When not working workers are free to use pool sauna etc.
