My wife and I had our flu jabs several weeks ago, and had a shingles jab at the same time. One in each arm. They were done by appointment at our local surgery where they took us both in together. There was only one person in front of us and we had to wait outside until we were called in. It was all done in a couple of minutes.

I had a Zoom meeting this afternoon with our local patient participation group from the surgery, and they said that when the Covid jabs become available it is likely to be a walk-through service by appointment. If you are driving you will have to wait 15 minutes outside afterwards, presumably in case there is any immediate reaction although they are not expecting any. Just a precaution. If you are not driving there is no need to wait.

ooohhh ok, at the time of my writing the figure was 2.5 million. i am pleased they have just 5 millon on order.

there are 67 million people in the uk. 2.5 million or 5 million its not going to be enough for the population.

i hope the oxford astra-zanica vaccine is every bit as good as we hope but as yet its behind the others in terms of its delievery.

do we stubbornly wait for it to germinate at the cost of lives and businesses or do we use one thats ready for use. ok none are ready for use yet but the oxfor A-Z is no where near.

the pfizer vaccine is a 2 shot process that kind of doubles the work involved in administering it.

And one of the Hepatitis ones has to have a second jag, within a year (Hep A? I’ve forgotten, it was years ago). Polio has to be repeated too and it’s a problem getting the boosters done in a nomadic or widely scattered society, so the protection isn’t always complete.
I just wonder how it’s decided which of the vaccines we’ll be given - prefer the 95% effective one rather than the 90% effective one!
