Just noticed this on the BBC website.
When you arrive in an EU country (except Ireland) be prepared to show your return ticket.
That will put a stop to our usual practice of booking the return ferry on the way back through France.
Have the BBC got this correct?

So arrive at Calais. Take 30days to reach Croatia. Then spend up to 90 days in Croatia. Then spend up to another 60 days touring & arrive in Calais on the final day. You are still within your 90 within 180 days in Schengen so ok ? That is driving on a single trip.
If you did use your full 90 days in Schengen then you could not visit Schengen for another 90 days once you returned to UK. Yes ?
Does that sound correct ? If so Croatia could become the go to destination for Brit long termers next year at least. Croatia does have an intention to join Schengen though so after that visits will be included in the 90 day period presumably ?
That is assuming the 90 day rule is enforced. To enforce it your passport would need to be stamped & then checked on exit. If passport is not stamped on entry then presumably one could risk staying longer. All work in progress I guess ?

Billy I think you are right in that assumption, and there are some very very nice sites in Croatia! Where is my Croation dictionary?

Heres the Government info on EHIC ...... not good. Tourists aren't covered.
Using an EHIC from 1 January 2021
Some people can get a new UK-issued EHIC which will remain valid for visits that begin from 1 January 2021.
You’ll be able to apply if you’re:
an EU national living in the UK before the end of 2020
receiving a UK State Pension or some other ‘exportable benefits’ and living in the EU before the end of 2020
a ‘frontier worker’ (someone who works in one state and lives in another) before the end of 2020, for as long as you continue to be a frontier worker in the host state
an eligible family member or dependant of one of the above
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-residents-visiting-the-eueea-and-switzerland-health........
That hasn't been updated. There is much more up to date information on the Government website now. I copied this yesterday from the information about a replacement 'EHIC' card:
Copied from HM Government website
118. In addition, the Protocol will ensure necessary healthcare provisions – akin to those provided by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) scheme – continue. This means individuals who are temporarily staying in another country, for example a UK national who is in an EU Member Statefor a holiday, will have their necessary healthcare needs met for the period of their stay.
EHIC always had to be reclaimed in most countries where residents contribute towards their Healthcare, such as France.
119. The Protocol also protects the ability of individuals to seek authorisation to receive planned medical treatment in the UK or the EU, funded by their responsible State.

I think there has been plenty of mentions of standard practices when entering a third country & not so much about what will actually happen. Ie all countries in the world are entitled to ensure foreign nationals entering their territory have the funds to support themselves & that they will leave at the end of their stay.
Once UK has left EU then those standard practices will apply to UK nationals entering EU territory. Whether they will actually be applied to obviously solvent holidaymakers is unknown at the moment.
------------- Every day should be a holiday!

From media reports. International driving permits will not be required. Green cards will be required.
Car insurance will supply separate Green cards for car & caravan free but apparently can only be sent by post ie not downloaded & printed.
Mine came through from Saga just a few days after I renewed my insurance this month & are valid for the period of the cover.

Just read about this on the .gov website. I'm under no obligation to tell my car insurers what i'm towing, so do they just send a generic green card, or do you tell them what you are going to be taking? My car insurance is due for renewal in Feb, so not worrying until then as least, just curious. TIA

Hi Katy. You tell your car insurer make & model of caravan you will get a separate green card for your specific caravan. Saga were right on top of this but other insurers might be less so.
Reason your car insurance has to do this is to confirm their third party cover on your caravan while being towed.
Thank you for replying. Already had Admiral correspond with me, but not going anywhere anytime soon, so in no rush at the moment. Wonder if anyone is going to be caught out by the insurers finding illegal matches and refusing to issue one? Unlikely, but you never know.
