Hi,
Were currently looking for a campsite for this July.
Looking for somewhere up to 4 hours from St Malo.

We have done Lacanau ocean before and enjoyed it. But the drive was a bit too long for the wife with the kids in the car to entertain.

Requirements:
Good family site
Quality pool and Slides on site
Close to beach resort for food and drinks in the evening
Ideally large pitch to take car, trailer and large tent.
With ideally 16a supply to help charge an electric car! ;-)

Anyone got any good suggestions.
Cheers
Mike

Hi, Presumably you mean next July? The earlier you can get there the cheaper it will be of course but any site that fits your criteria will likely not be cheap.

Can recommend Pin Parasol in the Vendee. Very good sized pitches, great pools, restaurant or takeaway fir food and not too far from the coast.

I know they books up quickly and offer early booking discounts so maybe worth a look.

We spent a couple of nights in the area the year before we visited and fir us PP was easily the best site and was very very clean with great facilities blockers and an amazing new pool that had just opened in 2018.

The Vendee is well within your driving 'range' and prob has thousands of sites for you to choose from. As i am sure you already know, the nearer the coast = smaller pitches and busier sites.

I think the 16A supply will be the major stumbling point though i have noticed public charging points being installed around the Challans area.

Are you looking for a 'french' site or one with lots of UK/Irish visitors?

France is well ahead of UK on car charging points. You will find them in most supermarket car parks including the smaller ones. I’m sure there is a website that will list public charging points in France so charging your car should be less of a issue than finding a campsite with 16amp ehu. Ime you will be lucky to find a 10amp ehu. Most are 6amp.

Absolutely loved la Tranche Sur Mer in the Vendee - town and lovely beach is almost like a traditional English seaside resort, but with the addition of a brilliant watersports school and an indoor aquatic centre in the unlikely event the weather is bad. We stayed at a site on the beach itself with a relatively simple pool but there are a couple of the 'all singing all dancing' variety about 10mins from the beach.
(Camping Bel gets a few recommendations) There's more of this type further west at Jard Sur Mar and Sables D'olonne -the latter is quite a large, interesting port town to give another dimension to your holiday. All these resorts are within reach of Puy de Fou which is supposed to be an unforgettable experience with kids.

Hi, just checked and PP has two EV charging points.

We have stayed nearer the coast in the Vendee but as mentioned you will not get such a decent sized pitch.
We know from experience that often the appeal of the pools, and other children, has a often greater draw with children than days on the beach and PP was ideal for this but with the beach not far away.
The nearest town Bretignolles Sur Mer is attractive and has a pedestrianised Main Street which is great when herding small children!

As mentioned Puy du Fou is not too far and is well worth a visit, we went with daughter, husband their three young children and two older teenagers staying with us. Next day my daughter said the children could not stop talking about it and all agreed it was the best ever family day out.

It’s not cheap but very good value and a lot of sites, including PP, do discounted tickets. It is a huge place so pre planning, using tinternet, will pay off.
On arrival pick up an English language guide, in a display near the entrance, as theses are printed every day as timings can change.

Would advise going as early as you can, take plenty of food and drink and stay on to see the   night time display on the lake which is quite magical.
Oh, and download the app.

If it sounds like we enjoyed our visit, in 2018, the next year we went with friends, stayed nearby and got three day tickets!

Cheers for the info guys.

Agree 16a might be hard to locate. But its not critical I agree I can find public chargers.

I had not thought too much about a more inland site before thinking we had to be at the coast. But as said, it the inland sites do look to offer more space. And Pin Parasol does look good. So I will have a chat with our friends and try to work through some of the suggestions.
Cheers.
Mike

Hi,
We reguarly arrive in St Malo and then travel for 4-5 hours and then stop and have an adventure for a few days then travel on.
I would highly recommend these if you have kids/family and a caravan or trailer:
1) Stop off and visit Pay du Fou, we have stayed at a number of sites near it but our favourite is Camping du Vallee Poupet. It is by a river with a pool and if lovely (it's a bit hidden and relaxing)and only 10 mins from P d F. Pay du Fou is just awesome and I'm not into theme parks but it brings history alive.
2) Camp on the outskirts of Nantes (we chose Camping Belle Riviere) and visit Iles du Machine (you may need to pre-book the elephant and the carousel) Nantes has this amazing arts trail around the city and you can choose where you want to go and which bits to follow. This includes mueseums, castles, mirror pools, childrens play area's based on dragons, and wacky football pitches, the list is endless, Jules Verne mueseum.
3) Marais poitevin, or France's green venice. It's a longer drive but completely relaxing, stay at the Venice Verte for easy access to hiring a barque and having a picnic on the side of the river.
One other tip and sorry if I am telling you to suck eggs, but before you travel check with Bison Fute https://www.bison-fute.gouv.fr/calendrier-bison-fute,10739.html that you are not travelling on a Black Saturday otherwise you may find yourself sitting in traffic for a long time.
Basically choose where you want to stop, google campsites and read the reviews, then make your choice.
Have fun
