GB stickers and number plates
You do not need a GB sticker if your number plate includes the GB identifier on its own or with the Union flag.
You do not need to display a GB sticker to drive in Ireland.
You must display a GB sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following:
a Euro symbol
a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales
numbers and letters only – no flag or identifier
If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a GB sticker no matter what is on your number plate.

So no need to cover the stars.

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?

Cheers that’s made it clear in my mind. No need for cost or faff of changing or altering europlates. GB sticker on car & caravan does it all. So simple. Thanks all.
Let me know how you get on with local French and Spanish guardia my brother in law tells me displaying an EU plate when not in the EU will be regarded as a nonconformist/illegal plate.
Apart from that we voted to leave EU why would you want to carry on displaying plate that will be considered illegal and risk problems long hold ups.
I am well aware what our government web site says I am also well aware of the grey areas we have not been made aware off.
So I shall be playing safe for the sake of Ł1.99.

That's the whole point, it's not illegal provided you have a GB sticker on the vehicle.
But yes, you should do what you like to satisfy your own concerns and the opinion of your brother in law,
However the information provided on here is correct, and are the current rules / law made by the EU not us.
So glad for never liking the EU style plates, one less thing to worry about, just need to get a GB sticker and job done.

When I changed my car and garage made up my personal plates I made sure they didn't put the EU stars on them. So just the GB sticker for me on the car. Can't remember if my plate on the van has it and it's in storage so will have to wait until Dripford lifts lockdown to check

The only EU style number plate we have is on the caravan. The car has plates without any flags. As we have no intention of going to europe this year, I will just sit back and relax. Might buy one set to go on the caravan just to get rid of the EU thing.

Thanks, just bought stickers from ebay.
Ancient Uncle, you found a German with a sense of humour?😊
His wife did but he definitely did not. He went off in quite a temper.
Oh I did add a few extras, like English has to be the standard EU language and the Queen must become Queen of EU.
I personally will be keeping mine on, they look great.
