Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Depends on your route - expensive autoroute visa Le Mans or cheaper dual carriageway via Nantes and Rennes. Depends too on whether simple stopovers will do or whether you want bar, restaurant and swimming pool . More info needed.
We over-nighted last year at Camping aux Cygnes, at Blangy sur Bresle. It is about 500 yds from exit 5 on the A28. It is listed on UKCS as Camping aux Cygnes D`Opale, and I put a review on here last year if you want to see my thoughts, it was good by the way.
If you are looking for a stop between Le Mans and Rouen, the municipal at Argentan, Camping de la Noue, takes some beating. It is probably the best looked after site I have ever used, next to a lovely public park and walkable into town. There is nothing to fault it.

Are you looking for stopovers at a particular distance or just so that you can see something new?
The Loire might be a good place to visit. We've stopped at Le Moulin Fort near Chenonceau which is run by Brits. Despite that (!) it's lovely. You could visit some of the chateaux and the ZooParc de Beauval near there is awesome. Even for a 16 year old.
No idea about places near Calais - we normally treat ourselves to a night in a hotel and pray the kit in the car will be ok overnight. We've been very lucky so far. Having said that one of them - Hotel Bal at Tournehem sur la Hem has a campsite with overnight pitches. It's about 5 minutes off junction 2 of the A26. Within a few miles of there is the Blokhaus d'Eperleques which is well worth a visit.

We usually stop over at Camping Haliotis in Pontorson, but sounds like you want something a bit nearer to Calais
Have you tried Château de Lez-Eaux campsite,
Lovely round Mont St Michel and Avranche.
But Want to put a fair few miles down, stop a few days, move on, stop near Calais on friday night.
Probably Loire then on to Picardy possibly
Then a few nights at Tudor Farm, Slimbridge ( hols not used at xmas)
