We had the bright idea to leave our caravan in storage after enjoying our annual trip to Provence in 2019, planning to return in May 2020.

With hindsight we should have had a holiday and brought it back with us last summer but we were nervous about travelling while the situation was unpredictable. We’d now like it back so that we can use it to enjoy UK holidays so have made some tentative enquiries about paying a company to transport it for us. It’s stored indoors but we’re concerned about the safety of the tyres now.

We’re not sure what to do for the best and I’d be interested to hear what everyone on this excellent forum thinks we should do? Does anyone have a transport company that they would recommend? Thanks very much for reading.

It is going to cost a fortune to get it transported. Your best bet is to collect it yourself. You probably can from next month. Take a tyre pump with you & then take it somewhere locally to get a couple of new tyres if you think they are needed but if less than 5yrs old probably ok.

Just make sure tyres are inflated to correct pressure & wheel nuts are tight.

One of those questions this: Needs some careful consideration I would say.
If your heart is set on getting it back here, I would do as billy says.
Go get it yourself when permitted. Could have a week or two hols at the same time, kill two birds with one stone.
France and Spain will follow Portugal shortly, no doubt about that. So movement will be possible.
As for transport company!!!! That might be a huge expense, I would have thought.
Not only that, it maybe full on immigrants when it arrives at your door..😱😱😱

As regards to tyres, I am under the impression tyres should be changed every 5 years, however my last ones was on 9 years, checked regular tho! And not in the heat of the south of France.
Decisions, decisions. Its going to have to be your call.
Best of luck ietherway. 👌

Thanks to you both for your advice. We were quoted £1.5k to bring it back on a transporter
but would have the cost of getting ourselves there with a couple of hotel stops to balance against that.

I do hope you’re right about being able to go for a holiday soon. That’s what we all want this year!

I agree with the previous posters. Wait until it's ok to go and get it back yourself. I'm sure it wouldn't cost anything like the £1.5k you were quoted to get yourselves there and back. Going out you'd only have to pay for your car, and a couple of hotel stops wouldn't cost the earth either. That way you'd also have the benefit of being able to have a couple of weeks (or however long you decide) in France. And apart from all that, you're not having to trust a transport company with your pride and joy.
