We are at Lake Annecy today and heading towards The Ardeche tomorrow. Looking to spend 2 nights there. Quiet campsite required. 2 mature adults, so don’t need kids pool/play area. Enjoy gentle cycling and walking. Close to nice restaurants walking distance would be a plus. Being close to the river would be nice too. Any advice would be appreciated.

Domaine de Chadeyron, at Lagorce, between Vallon Pont d'Arc and Aubenas. Has large pitches up to 140 sq m, on terraces, and near to the Voie Verte for cycling, but not near the Ardeche river. Le Tilleuil restaurant nearby. Closes 9th October.

Camping Le Clapas, near the river, and with some pitches up to 130 sq m, plenty of restaurants within walking distance. I think there may be a link from Vallon Pont d'Arc to Ruoms and the main Voie Verte, but I'm not sure if it's been completed yet. Closes 26th September.

There are lots of other sites along the river which at this time of year won't be busy, so you could think about what appears to be a 'family' type site. L'Ardechois at Vallon Pont d'Arc has some large pitches, excellent sanitary blocks, and bar and (good when we were last there) restaurant on site. It's walking distance into Vallon which has a lovely Thursday market. It's open until 2nd October, and is a lovely site. If you get an urge to visit a market there is a big Friday market in Ruoms, or a Saturday market in Les Vans, both excellent.

We store our caravan in that area, but unfortunately our site, which is exceptionally quiet at this time of year, is closed for your dates.

I don't know any really small quiet sites in/around that area, because those aren't usually the sort of sites we visit, so because it's likely to be quiet everywhere I've recommended other sites which fit other parts of your criteria.

The Voie Verte is a fantastic cycling route Voie Verte Ardeche

This is a small site, near to where we store our caravan, and also quite convenient for the Voie Verte. There's a restaurant at Grospierres Gare, and plenty of others in Sampson, and Ruoms.

It's open until the 29th September.

Rives d'Arc is a nice riverside site with some big pitches and easy to access. Good sanitaires (the newer blocks, halfway down the site, remain open at this time of year).

This used to be two adjacent campsites, now combined and called 'Nord' et 'Sud'. As Val says, it won't be busy at the moment. An easy walk into Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. Closes 26th September.

Edited to add: currently €20 per night on ACSI. (L'Ardèchois - next door- is €34 -€58 in this period).

I had to look this one up, because it wasn't a site I'd heard of - only to discover it's the next site(s) to L'Ardechois, which used to be called Le Provencal and Le Mondial. We've stayed on each of them more than once, but a long time ago.
