Definitely pre-book Eurotunnel or it will cost you a small fortune.
Can't recommend a site UK side as we always prefer to get a late afternoon crossing (it's cheaper from 4pm onwards) and spend our first night on a site in France.
We stay here going and coming back from the tunnel.
Lovely site, has adults only section, excellent toilet block and a huge Tesco about five minutes away.
If memory serves my correct, the tunnel is about 13 miles away and very easy to get to from the site.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

We do the same. There are many sites around Calais which are convenient for the motorways.
It allows you to calm down from the excitement (and terror) of the channel crossing, have a good night's sleep and then start the next day refreshed
