We are travelling to France in just over a fortnight with caravan but I am still confused regarding regulations on departure from Poole and arrival at Cherbourg. Is it necessary to show proof of vaccination. Can someone please explain the full procedure and whether .

you need to show proof of vaccination before you board at Poole, you can either download a QR code from the NHS website to a smartphone or request a paper copy from the NHS site,if you order a paper copy it can take 7 days before you receive it so get started now!
If it is any help, I travelled last August and again in March and on both occasions I took proof of vaccinations, and both times the French border staff just waved them away and just wanted our passports. That was Dover/Calais I should add, but as it is very easy to get a printed copy, I would take it anyway.
If you have an iPhone you can download your COVID travel pass to your Apple wallet direct from the NHS app. Saves fiddling with the NHS app if you are asked for your pass
If you don`t have an Apple phone, just save the codes from the NHS app into `files` on your phone and you can then access them without needing to go online and access the NHS app. If you want a paper copy you can request an e-mail copy on the NHS app and then just print it off from there, it saves you waiting for one to arrive by post.

I guess that because you have to show it when you board the ship in the UK they presume anyone leaving the ferry in France must’ve got a Valid NHS pass.

Recently done Plymouth/Roscoff return, proof of vaccination was required at check in at Plymouth, AND customs at Roscoff. We used the NHS app.
Yes sorry, I should have said I transferred it from the NHS to the wallet on my iphone. All very easy and trouble free TBH. 👍👍
Suzac, Several people have said the simplest thing is to print your vaccination proof before you leave home and hand over that paper with your passport to the check in at Poole.
I have just returned from a three week caravan holiday in France, travelling with Brittany Ferries Portsmouth to Saint Malo and return. I had printed off our NHS covid vaccination certificates and the only time we had to produce them was at Portsmouth on the outbound journey. I should add that our caravan was subjected to a cursory search at Saint Malo and Portsmouth. It appeared that the search was directed towards illegal immigrants rather than drugs or customs violations.

When we used to go abroad, the customs officials never looked under the fixed bed. Plenty of room for illegals there, not that we were carrying any. I must look very suspicious, as I always get searched, at the ferry ports, at airports...

If you travel with Eurotunnel they require that you upload it to your booking, along with your API (a scanned copy of the printed certificate is what we used). It is then 'validated' and once validated by whatever process they use, there are no other physical checks.
