Hi everyone.

2018 went on a epic journey to costa brava stayed at a very good site. Now new relationship we are a big outfit. Me and the wife and 6 kids. We are looking to go august 2023 to France, I can’t seam to find any sites that carry 8 person occupancy. I have found a site in Costa brava that will accommodate us but I’m not sure yet this will be the best option for us.

So my question is any decent sites swimming pool and slides is a must. That will accommodate us.

I'd have a look in the Ardeche area, which offers some great family sites alongside fantastic scenery, and great options for adventure sports such as canyoning, canoeing down the various rivers, Accrobranche, Bungee jumping, etc.   I think most restrictions are more to do with parties of single people rather than a family, so it's always worth emailing campsites directly. I know the site where we store our caravan has '6' people as the option for a pitch, but it's always worth emailing the site itself to ask whether larger families can be accommodated. If not, perhaps think of two adjacent pitches, with the older children in their own tents on one pitch, and adults and the smaller children on the other.

We had a party of up to nine on one site in the Ardeche, years ago, when my sons were teenagers, and a variety of their friends joined us during the whole or part of the holiday.

If you want somewhere a bit nearer than that have a look at Le Logis du Breuil - hallway down the west side of France, about 320 miles from Caen ferryport so reachable in a day from there. It has very big pitches (150 sq m. upwards), a water park with indoor and outdoor pools, just about 3 miles to the sea, and lots of other British kids for yours to mix with. Website and reviews are on here.

Unfortunately in the booking page it only allows two adults and up to four children, like a lot of sites. However, I can't help feeling that an email explaining that you have a larger than average family might make the difference between a confirmed booking and a disappointing booking experience.

Like other experienced campers and caravanners we have seen some very large families on some sites.

We have stayed at Camping La Palombière, Les Mthes-La Palmyre a few times. They have a few 'double' pitches which cater for two units together and have double electric points. We have seen one and and a 'half" families on them - ie a caravan three tents, 3 adults 5 kids. Small but pleasant pool but no slides. Look for "espace Grand Large' -https://camping-lapalombiere.com/camping.php Not cheap! nice campsite and Arnaud and his wife speak excellent English if you need them to.

Camping du Lac de St.Cyr takes bookings for up to eight, either on pitch or in accommodation. Nice site, good pool, next to a lake. A day’s drive from the Channel, and handy for Futuroscope, well worth a visit.
