So, we are driving past Lyon on the A6. Do I need a crit air sticker jobby to just pass Lyon?

See you now need a UK sticker not GB one.

Beambenders? Where are we with these nowadays? Yay or nay? Vehicle is old.

Anything else I need as haven’t driven in France for about five years now.

Ta lovely people

No crit air sticker required to go through Lyon on the autoroute.

Officially you should have a UK badge but in practice you won’t be fined or arrested for being labelled GB.

Beam benders? Well do foreign visitors to UK drive around with bits stuck on their headlights?

What else? Has your passport got the right validity and do you have up to date covid vaccination proof to get into the EU?

Take care.

Cheers. I remember that we’d all given up on beambenders when I was last travelling to France but wanted to check there wasn’t a clampdown now we’re out of the EU and everyone hates us 😂

I always feel that as Critair stickers are so cheap - 3 or 4 euros - -you might as well just get one anyway. There is a common misconception that they are only needed in large cities when in fact there are whole regions where at certain pollution levels they are required. If you get one on-line make sure that you use the official French government site and not one of the rip-off sites you will come across on Google.

I'm sorry but I just don't see the point in buying one if going passed Lyon, I mean, however cheap it is will be the equivalent to a good bottle of wine.

My car manages to navigate around Lyon without the aid of one just fine.

Ditto! Off to Frogland next month, decided for the sake of 4.51 Euros incl postage to UK, it was just easier to get one and not have to worry about the 'pop-up' temporary zones of which there are many more than the permanent ones in a few cities. First one we would likely encounter would be Caen, just outside ferry port of Ouistreham!

All the info is there for the reading on the French Gov web site, and they rather generously do an English version. If you have your V5 reg doc to hand, most of the info required is there for the online form filling, and you will need it anyway as you have to submit a scanned copy, simple process all done in 10 minutes or so.

Don’t even look at the legally required new entry requirements.

The only difficulty I had with getting a crit air sticker is that I needed to compress photo of V5. All they need is the page with all the vehicle info on but I found taking a picture of it with my phone then trying to upload it to application form it came up as image too large.

So search online for free pdf compressor & use that to reduce size of image to allow it to upload. that done & it came through in about a week.

If you download the Green-Zones app you will see there are large areas of France that could require a sticker if pollution levels are high enough. For example the popular route through Chartres & Orleans is covered. The app gives a useful map of European green zones but don’t order any stickers through it as it points you to the expensive reseller sites.

Hi, we've just ordered ours, just in case we end up needing to go somewhere unexpectedly.
Just ordered our new ghic cards to replace our ehics which expire soon. The ehics are still valid as long as they're in date, but then you need the new ghic instead.

You can spend up to 90 days in total in the Schengen area without requiring any sort of visa.

At the moment the only documents you need are a valid passport (check the new rules) and a Covid pass or the appropriate test result if you don't have a booster jab. We've just done two trips in and out in the last month, and haven't always been asked for the Covid pass, but it doesn't mean you don't need it. Someone yesterday had to organise an emergency test as he hadn't read the rules, and didn't have a Covid pass. Fortunately he was at an airport with a testing centre in the terminal building.

You can use a Schengen visa calculator (misnamed because the UK has a visa waiver with the EU) to check your travel dates to make sure they comply with the 90 day requirements. It's easier and more flexible than some people make out because there are no fixed periods of 180 days, just a rolling period. I liken it to an escalator with 180 steps. At any one time only 90 steps can be occupied, but once a person steps off at the top a new step becomes available at the bottom. So there is never a new escalator, just new steps.

Schengen 90/180 Calculator
