For what it's worth, a mate and I have just been to France for 5 days and returned Tues, on the Portsmouth-Caen ferry, no one checked our Covid status at any point (we had all the Vacs and paperwork in order and ready to show), but a friend who travelled on a different ferry had his Covid status checked, his NHS App on his phone (which was foolishly the ONLY record he had) failed at the check in kiosk and he couldn't prove his status, they then refused to let him board the ferry!
He had to sort his NHS App out to get his status in a presentable manner, and travel on later on a different ferry AND new ticket, whilst rest of his gang went without him on original ferry booking! Some of the gang waited at the French port for him to catch up on the next ferry, but a massive inconvenience AND extra expense of an extra foot passenger ticket.
Moral of the story, you may or may not be checked, BUT for goodness sake get a backup electronic PDF copy on phone AND a hard paper copy of status, DON'T rely on NHS App alone as your only status record!
