We want to go to France for a family holiday this summer and are looking for a campsite that takes campervans and has a good pool. Ideally it should be within a couple of hours drive from Calais.
Thanks in advance.

But your address on here says Dorset so wouldn’t it be easier to go from Poole to Cherbourg? I can think of good sites close to there.

Ideally we would, but looking at ferry prices in August it is between £500 & £600 for Poole to Cherbourg and roughly £250 for Dover to Calais. Even taking into account the extra fuel it is a significant saving. I also believe you can use Tesco vouchers wuth P&O.

You can use Tesco vouchers with P&O for a solo car, but not if you are towing. However you can use them with the tunnel. I hope someone else can help you with sites starting from Calais - perhaps in the Bay of Somme area .

Try Camping Le Champ Neuf at ST Quentin en Tournant, probably an hour and a half from Calais. Pool, indoor pool with play area for those cooler days, near to some long (and some wild) beaches. There is a nature reserve nearby, with spoonbills, storks, and many other wading birds, there is a small lake nearby with lots of different water sports, and a tree-top type place. Lots of family activities on site, better suited to younger children rather than teenagers. The town of St Valery Sur Somme is not far away and there is a small railway taking you on a tour of the town. Some lovely bars and restaurants there, and some nice little shops. Le Crotoy, opposite, is a real throw-back fishing port.

You can use Tesco vouchers with both P&O and with Irish Ferries, who also run sailings from Dover to Calais.

Thanks for the advice. Am booking the Ferry with Tesco vouchers so only costing us £10. As for the campsite we are going to Chateau Grandspette after a friend recommended it.

Mr Webmaster, if we stay at a site not yet on the UKCampsite.co.uk data base and enjoy it how can we recommend or review it ?
When touring I tend to find the nearest campsite as the sun goes down.
For example Camping Vitamin, 865 rue des Vertus
76550 Saint-Aubin-Sur-Scie.
It is a lively site with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, the staff are friendly and do their best to fit you in, and there is a big new Aldi next door.
https://www.camping-vitamin.com/en/

It's just in the right place for the Newhaven Dieppe ferry but there were no other British there when I visited.

Enjoy the liveliness of the syntax.
