We will probably try Spain this year at the end of August beginning of September. Never been to mainland Spain before and would like to find a campsite where we could walk into a town or village and if possible a beach. Not sure if this is asking too much! We don’t mind large sites at this time of year or small sites with fewer facilities - location is more important. We would also be interested in any sites more inland with interesting village etc.

hi lizzie we have been to blanes twice theres a few campsites in blanes all with easy walk to shops resteraunts and beach, worth a look

Roses, in northern Costa Brava, with several campsites nearby, all within walking distance. A lovely place and a bit more sheltered than some on that coast. Also try Playa d'Aro - where Camping International has a road bridge across to a short walk down to the (absolutely beautiful) beach. There is a lovely coastal path where you can walk along to many other smaller coves.

I like the sound of Playa d’Aro. I will check they accept dogs as I’ve noticed a few in Spain don’t.

If you are in the Rosas area, then perhaps
Mas Nou in Empuriabrava
a large (ish) site right by the town and easy cycling through the adjacent nature reserves to Rosas or south to Saint Pedro Pescatore

We holidayed for many years in Calella De Paladrugell Camping La Fiesta. The village of Calella De Palafrugell (not to be confused with Calella) is beautiful. Palafrugell itself is also walkable (tho longish) and the area itself is well located for visiting other lovely towns and villages- Pals, Peritalada (sp?), Figueres, Cadaques. Our kids loved it, and now in their 40's still talk about it. We are actually planning a reunion there.

Another vote for La Serena L’ Estartit. Exit the site and beach and restaurants 2 mins.
Just a 10 min stroll into the main part. Dog friendly too. Lovely restaurant on site.
