If in France and your ATMB tag fails to raise the barrier for you don't panic, simply take it off its fixing and wave it about a bit. If it still fails (as mine did) then offer the bar code on the back of the tag to the 'code reader thingy' on the pay machine and the barrier should rise. If it doesn't then feel free to panic!

Our Bip & Go doofer was 7 years old this year and hadn’t been used for 2 years (for obvious reasons) so the first toll booth at St Omer was a bit exciting. Luckily it worked ok and there is a Bip & Go office right by the toll so I went in and they changed it for me without any questions. Apparently it’ll now work in Spain and Portugal as well if needed.
Wouldn’t be without one.

Our APRR tag is 9 years old and still going Its always a relief to hear that beep at the first peage
Though we still came a cropper a couple of years ago......it worked at the first peage so at the next one we headed for the 30kmh lane, only for it not to work! Luckily it wasn't at all busy so it wasn't too bad reversing out and using a different lane. The tag worked fine in the other lane so I guess it was the sensor on the 30kmh lane which was the problem rather than us. If I can work out how to do it I'll probably still get it replaced soon for one that also works in Spain and Italy.

My ATMB tag was 5 years old a couple of years ago and I was thinking that the battery might be getting low so I just ordered an additional tag at no cost other than the postage.
We went through one peage near Poitiers a few years back where all the systems were down - fortunately the tag lanes were manned by lovely ladies who instructed us to ‘remove your tag please’ and then scanned them with hand held readers before manually opening the barriers. Those paying by cash or card had an even longer queue for their booths 😂
