Hi can someone tell me if its still free and accessible for motorhomes as i went past the other month late at night and noticed a chain on thanks in advance

There is recent info on Camper Contacr website saying daytime parking is OK but the parking area closes at 9 pm. and that overnight parking is no longer allowed.
There is a paid for aire in the town opposite the municipal campsite, and a free no facilities aire along the seafront at Sangatte.
We no longer stop anywhere near Calais in the MH since we managed to pick up a hitchhiker a couple of years ago....we literally turned our backs for a couple of minutes and he managed to slip in via the passenger door and then hid in the shower. We didn't hear or notice a thing until a few miles later when he realised we were heading south (at which point we stopped and let him out on the hard shoulder). We do still stop for fuel in the area but one of us stays inside with all the doors locked.
I've also heard stories of them climbing onto bike racks or lashing themselves to the chassis - which is not only dangerous, but there's also the potential for them to cause damage to the MH in the process. For me the risks are just too high.

I could be wrong, however, I believe the current advice is to avoid stopping in Calais and up to 25 miles from the ports.

There is a good municipal site in Calais with an aire next to it. The site is fenced and has gates and barriers.
It is a nice site we have stayed there.Short walk to the seafront or into town.

Could you please give the source of that alleged advice.

Sorry, I don't remember where I read it. It could be one of the UKCS threads in the past 2-3 years when I started to plan for my trip to France.
Have a search as there are many threads on Calais.
Val A had her van broken into in ? 2019 - I remember reading that thread.

Not heard that advice. No problem stopping at Bien Assise twice this year or the aire at Sangatte.

As I had mentioned - I cannot recall where I read it.
However, I am not stopping until I reach Bolougne after arriving in France by tunnel when I go to France next year.

We actually had someone in our van in 2020 but it hasn’t stopped us shopping or staying in the area; we wouldn’t let that stop us from exploring what is a great part of France that we enjoy. But I accept others may well feel differently,
We stopped at Auchan in Coquelles on our way out this year. We often stop there for a final shop on the way back, as well as the cheap fuel. OH stayed with the car and caravan (he hates shopping anyway!) and said that this year, for the first time, people were peering into the caravan and the car. They moved off fairly quickly when they saw him though.
They would have had a shock if they had managed to get on board, as we were going south and didn't stop for another 2 hours
------------- Freedom is a light caravan and an open road.
There are lots of campsites in the area.
We don't overnight in aires and do not leave our outfit unattended in service areas here or in France.one of us stays with it.
We stopped at one in France a few years ago and several Chinese people appeared and were peering in the van and taking pictures! My wife went in it to get a drink and one lady tried to come in. She was politely refused!
The people were on a coach and were also very interested in a motorhome and other outfits in the car park.

Sadly, I camp on my own, and the dog does not function well as a guard dog as he wants to play with anyone and any dog all the time.
Therefore, I can't stop to go for grocery shopping if the risk is high for break-in's.
