I have stayed here twice.
It is a good site. There is differing entertainment on every night. This is not really my cup of tea, but you can't hear any of it from the pitches. My daughters enjoyed the entertainment. There is a shop on site which is basically the same as a TESCO extra. (Local supermarket version obvs) Pools are great and generally no issues finding a sun lounger. Superb base for exploring the Cote d' azure. Lovely bar area and various types of foods on offer throughout the day/evening. There is an award-winning restaurant on site, but the prices were eye watering for a family of 5. No BBQ allowed but the pitches have an electric griddle and a fridge included, oh and a dish washer (Sounds extravagant, but I found this a game changer!!). Electric is 16 amp, so no probs with tripping etc. 5 min drive down to the town of Agay which has a beach, watersports, restaurants, shops, a railway station and a post office. 15 to 20 min drive to Frejus or San Raph' excellent beaches and lovey town. If you stay at the site ignore sat nav directions to Frejus and San Raph, instead go to Agay and turn right at the roundabout and it's a lovely coastal road to Frejus and SR. This road leads eventually, to San Tropez, well worth a visit. If you decide to go, I recommend you go early on a Sunday morning, we set off at 8 am. We've attempted San Tropez before but could never park. If you turn left at the roundabout the coastal road takes you through plenty of gorgeous towns and leads on to Cannes and further afield. Plenty to do on site, we did archery one day, never done this before, but the daughter and I loved it. As I say, plenty to do onsite, with quite a few activities free of charge. There is a gym and there are fitness classes, even yoga, if that's your thing.
Plenty of supermarkets within easy driving distance, including a brand-new LIDL which opened this year. Showers and toilets could do with a refresh, but I've certainly stayed at sites with much worse. That said they are clean and well maintained. I stay on a 'Confort touring' pitch which I believe is the second level of pitch available. I have a 23-foot caravan with full awning and the pitch size accommodates this with no problems. There are other options which can include your own private bathroom and a jacuzzi on your pitch.
I also live in West Yorkshire (Halifax).
I stop overnight on the way down at Camping Municipal de Mâcon
camping at ville-macon.fr
This site is a little further than halfway, it is about 10 mins off the motorway and is a lovely little town in itself. It leaves 5 hrs or so left to drive the day after, which suits, as you can't arrive before 3pm. I do the journey in France over 2 days, but each to their own with that one.
Staff on site at Esterel are friendly and speak a multitude of languages. They love it when you speak French to them and help with the pronunciation. I've learned much more French there than I did with 5 years of GCSE lessons!
You can book through Eurocamp independent. I book myself as it is quite a saving.
Don't leave food waste outside your caravan over night! The wild Boar wander around, if you are lucky, you'll see them. We saw a group of 5, one morning this year. They just look at you and then carry on with their foraging.
So yes, I'd recommend.
