Unfortunately, Camping des Ribières will only accept 1 dog.

It was the comment, in the reviews, about the river being fast flowing that worried me. The retriever is fine but the cocker spaniel is stupid!

In that case Port de Limeuil might not be suitable.

https://www.dordogne-perigord-noir.fr/plage-de-limeuil/

Translation (using Deepl).

"The beach at Limeuil is located on the right bank of the Dordogne, just downstream of the confluence of the Vézère and Dordogne rivers. The beach is limited in size. You can lay your towel on the lawn in the shade or in the sun on the pebbles. From the beach you have a beautiful view of the two bridges of Limeuil.

To get there you can either park in the village car park (paying in summer) or in the car park of the football field.

There is a current at this point in the river and little bottom. You go there more for a dip than for swimming performances! Behind the beach there are tables in the shade, a bar (A l'Ancre de salut) has a nice terrace and can serve as a refill for drinks and ice cream.

Be careful in summer, if the Vézère is in flood (which sometimes happens after big storms), the beach becomes difficult to use (the Vézère then takes on an ochre colour). In this case, prefer a beach on the Dordogne, which is more protected from storms."

Yes, that’s a fair point Longcol. I paddled at the edge every day and there were definitely people swimming in it - the campsite has a ‘technically’ private beach which is on the other side to the town so a bit more sheltered, but I’ve got no experience of open water swimming so wasn’t confident enough to go out too far.

I did swim in the Vezere at Camping le Paradis which was gorgeous - amazingly warm and slow flowing - although the site itself didn’t really suit us.

Just goes to show how different we are; we've stayed at Le Paradis many times and like it very much but I'd never swim in the river from the site and nor would we let our dog go in because it's murky and there's a lot of weed. I prefer rivers which are clear so I can see what I'm swimming in.

The Tarn region is certainly worth some thought for a visit.Val A recommended it to us years ago when we were looking for somewhere new and we loved it returning many times over the years. The river swimming is lovely, water clear and river not too fast. If you put Millau in the search here on UK Campsite you will find many sites to choose from. We have enjoyed Les Rivages near Millau, the municipal in Le Rozier, Chantemerle near Florac, Huttopia campsite near Millau (maybe a little scruffy but very near the town). We want to try Camping Les Peupliers at some stage. Camping Lambert gets very good reviews but a bit further from town.
If you are still considering beaches, I remembered that Les Sable Blancs in Concarneau was great for our dog. The main beach down the hill did not allow dogs but if you walk on the little footpath above that beach to the next one, dogs are allowed here and it was a lovely spot. The back gate of the campsite leads to the town (20 mins easy walk) but also has a little stream in the woods that our dog enjoyed paddling in. This area was great for early morning and evening dog walks.
We stayed at Port Limeuil last year and although we used the river for dog swimming, I was a bit wary as it was faster flowing than I like for our Spaniel and too fast for me to do anything other than dip myself in. We did watch others having great fun being taken along by the river though.

As well as the river at Les Rivages, we also enjoyed driving up and down the little twisty roads on the sides of the gorges, a boat trip and vulture and beaver watching.

Thanks for the tip, I emailed them and they replied straight away. They are happy to have our two girls! Just booked it now! Roll on Aug and our first French adventure with our girls!

It's worth getting a riverside pitch if you can. Or, there are some really hige pitches closer to the road (to the right of the entrance).

Same with us. We don't like 'Murky' rivers, and haven't ever swum in the river at Le Paradis, although we have used our canoe there. We prefer clear and fast flowing rivers, not too deep, and where you can walk in from a nice sand and pebble beach.
