Hi I'm in France at the moment near epernay (north) and for the past couple of days have not been able to get the BBC channels via my sat dish and settop box is anyone else having this problem.
Thanks in advance

Hi debcon, I might be a bit late in coming into this conversation but were/are you able to get any of the other TV channels? We're just wondering if it's worth taking the sat dish with us this year when going through France to Spain and back.
Cheers
Keith

We are in Calpe on a 1.1 dish you can get BBC 1 and 2 but it is very marginal, cloud, atmospherics, even night time and reception gets very hit and miss, well more miss than hit. ITV, Channel 4 and 5 family are much better. The 1.4 dish works better, but we have a campsite restriction on dish size when you rent a dish.
The problem is caused by the BBC going HD only.
Its the SD/HD issue im in northern france and have a 60cm dish. Eventually im told most of the programs will be in HD so if you have HD set too box and sat dish that works in the region you are going to you should be ok
If you use a Freesat box it will delete all BBC SD channels forcing you to watch HD channels if you can. BBC still broadcast SD channels at the moment, you need to use an FTA box. Comag, Silvercrest, etc. Amazon flog Chinese ones for 25 quid, we have one, works well apart from the EPG is garbage.
