We've been recommended this organisation by friends who've used it in the past when touring with an all singing/dancing mega motorhome.

We, on the other hand, have a VW campervan (conversion).

I've looked on the F-P website and also trawled this forum but don't have a definitive answer to my question which is:

Would we be able to use these stop offs if our toilet facilitiy is merely a portaloo (albeit one of those with a detachable 'waste' section and basic flush type mechanism)?

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of this?

I’ll bet the “mega Motorhome” toilet had “a detachable ‘waste’ section” too. No one polices the flush mechanism.
Some UK sites have specific requirements about the chemicals you use, as the wrong ones kill the good bacteria in the septic tank so it stops working, but I don’t know about sites in France.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Our "all singing/, all dancing mega" motorhome has a cassette toilet, it wasn't possible to empty it at the 4 FP sites we used last summer, we emptied at our next stop. If you're lucky, you can empty it at a nearby aire. We managed to eke ours out for 2 days on one site.

Can your portaloo be sealed so you can travel with its contents? In which case you may be OK. Do you need to put up a loo tent? I don't know whether you'd be able to do that.

Some sites may have a WC, some may allow you to empty your loo but most expect you to be self sufficient. Looking through this year's guide, just at the Vendée department, 6 out of the 23 sites offered a WC.

We like the scheme and will be using it again this year.

I've had a look at the website too. We have a VW campervan conversion.

I think you have to assume that there are absolutely no facilities at all on offer at these stops, so nowhere to empty your toilet, get water, shower or leave rubbish. It seems to be free to stop, and I'm sure that some of the stops are lovely. You can also stay in MH aires, they are sometimes free but often just a car park, or you can stay in other places for free if that's what you want, like supermarket car parks or lay bys.

We prefer a campsite with EHU and other facilities.

This is generally the case. You are on the whole, expected to be self sufficient.

There are fewer free aires these days. Many have EHU and some are in picturesque locations.

When using FP sites or for that matter aires, we rarely stay for more than one night, fortunately at most aires you can take on water/dump waste water and empty your loo.

The beauty of the FP sites is that they're often far away from the madding crowd.

Mr Wez...we can seal the cassette when it's removed from the loo!

Franbee...we too like EHU etc but I also like the thought of being off grid at a vineyard : )

Fiona W...dare I admit that we don't use chemicals, I just give it a good wash at home. Although it only gets used for number 1s. Might be different if no actual loos are available ; )

Thanks all of you for the help.
