Hi
We are planning a trip to Italy in May/June this year and would like some recommendations of campsites around the Italian Lakes - Lake Como, Orta, Maggiore etc

We have a 8m motorhome - and will be taking bikes and a scooter for transport for exploring but would like to be in walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants for evenings & lazy days!

Any recommendations would be great.

Many thanks
Barbara

I don't know, but there used to be a lady who called herself Bobcat10 on here. She was very keen on that area. I think that if you look up that name you may be able to see her posts on that subject

from my limited knowledge of campsites around como, magiore and iseo, visiting como and magiore on my motorbike and Iseo driving round in a hire car after work in sarezzo, the campsites are not what we are used to in france or holland. they tend to be basic, small and no space between pitches. there may be better campsites but i dont know of them.

when i visited como we literally rode in and out of campsites because they were so packed in with tents etc we found one in sorico called camping au lac de como that wasnt as bad as the others. it had its own restaurant and hotel. still nothing like a french campsite.

We had a holiday at lake Garda a few years ago, very enjoyable. We stayed at Camping Baia Verde.

Camping Serenella looked nice when we stayed in that area last year in a hotel. We plan to use this campsite this summer. It is about one kilometre from Garda and the same from Bardolino. Both lovely towns with lots of restaurants etc and near enough for ferries.

We liked Cappuccini in Peschiera del Garda https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=17607 , it has a cafe and a pizzeria, 15 mins walk to the town and the lake ferry. Short ferry ride to Sirmione and Bardolino, a bit longer to Malcesine and Limone. There are pitches with a view of the lake which are much better than the pitches near the entrance. Small-ish and pleasant site, much smaller than the behemoth Bella Italia next door.

Hi - we have just returned from a round-trip holiday: Holland/Germany/Italy/Holland. In Italy, we stayed at the Conca d'Oro on Lake Maggiore. Been there before and I love it. We had a pitch right on the lake (great for sitting and watching the sun reflecting on the water). They do fabulous pizzas. It's a large-fish family-orientated site but with lots of room for both tourers and motorhomes. Pitches are a good size (power is 6 amps so be careful what you switch on at the same time!). Easy to get to via the San Bernadino tunnel route and turn right at Lugano. The journey down the lake road road is both picturesque and "interesting" in places as the hillside comes down to meet the road and leaves little room for error - but it is a main road so carries all sorts of traffic.
I would always use this site (there are 2-3 others in the immediate vicinity (Feriolo) and plenty around the lake's western side in preference to the other lakes (Como & Garda) as I found them quite busy, but that's because I'm biased to Maggiore...a lovely lake with quite a lot of nice places to visit and things to do. Verbania is worth a visit as are the boat rides (via public water bus as well as private).
Stresa is pretty and has lots of hotels built in the good old days but still looking good.
Best of luck choosing one to use...it's normally quite busy around this time.

Mrs Bonse, its Catharine aka Bobcat10.

Love, love , love Limone sul Garda...can't beat Camping Nanzel..location, facilities and unrivalled views.

We're considering France this year. The last 7yrs we've explored Italy and loved it but feel the need to give France another go. I posted something this morning a d I'm hopeful.

We stayed at Camping Serenella on Lake Garda a few years ago....it was a lovely campsite in a great location, but even with our Bailey (only 6.67m) we found much of it very very tight. Small pitches and very narrow roads with tight corners with trees on them. We didn't even consider it now that we have a longer MH.

This year we stayed at San Francesco Camping Village...much nicer in our opinion....much more spacious and better access. Its a different area of the lake, but its an easy bike ride to Sirmione or Desenzano and there's a couple of decent sized supermarkets nearby.
