After years of camping in Italy, we have decided to return to France.
We know Annecy and the surrounding district. We love Aquitaine. I'd like to find a place with attributes of both.
A lake, mountains with shoreline camping.
The last 7yrs have drawn us to the northern end of Lake Garda but it's time to try somewhere new to us.
Lac Lacanau at 'Le Tedey' is wonderful but we've exhausted that possibility.
Annecy fits the brief but finding a site with direct shoreline camping eludes us.
Recommendations welcomed.
Somewhere we can paddleboard would be perfect.
We will be travelling from Rotterdam ( the Hull - Zeebrugge crossing no longer operates).

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
In 2020 we had a really good lakeside pitch at Les Genêts, Lac de Pareloup. We found the site by chance and really liked it because of the views across the lake from our pitch.
Another one we liked is Domaine des Tours in Saint-Amans-des-Cots. I think it's changed ownership since we were last there but we've been a couple of times on a lakeside pitch.
Ken, this does tick the boxes.
We're investigating, thank you so much.
Let's see if we can find a site with pitches near the lake edge.
Beautiful area.

SGT - pretty but a bit flat.
I'm favouring something with a wee bit more drama.
This looks like the Fewston which is 20 minutes away.
I remember commenting on how like home this region is.
Italy takes some beating.
I feel we need the Jura/ Rhone Alps or approaching Provence to achieve the Geography.

We stayed here back in 2019, not a huge lake but very enjoyable and cracking views. campsite is a bit basic but that didnt bother us. Very good area aswell with Valberg not far and just up the road from Verdon Gorge etc.
I second Camping Du Brec. The lake isnt huge but the scenery here is spectacular. Entrevaux is a beautiful village perched up on the cliff. You can get a little train down to Nice and then on to all the sights on the coast. We loved it here, it was one of our favourite campsites.
The Aussies think that mountains are no higher than 3373 mate. We went over a few years ago...the Blue Mountains very beautiful but not like the Alps of Europe.
Anyway...we're sorted and have settled for a lovely lake. I will miss mountains this year but we won't have the same storms.
We're returning to Le Tedey - last visit was 12yrs ago. The first was 2002!
So SUP, cycling and running every day.
It's not an area for sight seeing unless you jump in the car. St Emilion is always a day out and perhaps Bordeaux.
I even found the Chambres D'hote nr Le Mans that we used as a stop over.
The prices at Le Tedey have risen considerably but that makes it a bit more exclusive.
Thank you everyone for your ideas, it is much appreciated.

My word P&O prices have soared.
£1,500. That's 80% increase.
Hull to Zeebrugge Club Class.
