If you don’t mind a few miles inland then look at Camping le Vallon aux Merlettes at Matignon - there’s a review of mine and a couple of others on here. And if your son takes a ferry to St Malo instead of Calais it’s only 20 miles from the ferryport., so certainly in the eastern part of Brittany.
But it will be pretty full in mid August so you will definitely have to book.. if it is full you can try Camping le Freche a l’Ane at Pléboulle nearby. Mid August is a busy time.

Malestroit has a nice municipal campsite, it’s an attractive town in an interesting area.

I spent a very pleasant night at Camping Aux Pommeries, 28 route du Mont Saint Michel,50170 Mont Saint-Michel, France.
It's on the border between Brittany and Normandy and you can see Le Mont Saint Michel 4km away down the road. This makes is really easy to find.
The site is clean and modern and has everything you need to make waiting there tolerable including pizza.
The sides of the delightful swimming pool can be opened in hot weather.
Nearby "The German Ossuary at Huisnes-sur-Mer near the hugely popular UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listed site of Mont St Michel in Normandy, France, offers a reminder that thousands of German soldiers also died during the Battle of Normandy in 1944. The stark mausoleum highlights the horrors and price of war but with an almost surreally beautiful view of Mont St Michel." This may seem a strange day out, a memorial to all the soldiers that died fighting for an insane dictator, but maybe it is topical at the moment.
