Need to take a closer look, but from memory, it's all plastic, isn't it? I just assumed it was nothing more than a bit of a clip to hold it firmly in place on the mount?
EDIT:
Found a pic of a "split Tag"... seems to show nothing inside that corresponding corner, and a standard button battery up above...
