As the storage is indoor, we take the caravan battery home between trips to keep it charged (we used to use a solar panel when storing outside). Also for servicing we use Caravan Help Abroad, meeting them at one of the French sites they visit throughout the year.

You can take a gas cylinder home and exchange here, or it can be stored externally at the storage with your name on it.
Other alternative is to buy a French cylinder and regulator / pigtail.

I have a Casino cylinder and pigtail for sale in Scotland if you are up here. £30 for the pair.

Ours is stored in a barn and is very old, so we haven't insured it. I know that others do and I believe Towsure will cover caravans stored and used abroad.

We unfortunately have had to move from that excellent storage facility as we can no longer get insurance cover there from Towergate, and could not find any other company to offer cover for a caravan stored abroad. As it is such a great place to store, we were tempted to do without insurance but finally decided the van is not quite old enough for that yet so moved to a different storage that meets Towergate's criteria (even though we consider the storage in the Loire to be far superior).

We too found it much easier to change over to a French cylinder, regulator and pigtail for gas (we have a Le Cube cylinder by Butagaz) as they are widely available at supermarkets etc and there's no worry about running out or transporting bottles to and fro.

Yes, readily available. When you get one for the first time you have to pay the "consigne"(the deposit on the bottle), then it's just a question of swapping like for like and just paying for the gas.
