We are thinking of going to Lake Annecy next summer (2 weeks between mid June to mid July) and to break the journey up we are looking to stop over part way (in the caravan we haven't brought yet🤣). We generally stick to Autoroutes as I'm happy to pay the tolls. Has anyone any recommendations for sites enroute? Does anyone stop over at Aires? Thanks in advance.

It’s 640 miles from your home address to Annecy . If you want to drive 320 miles each day then the halfway point is probably the popular site at Chalons en Champagne - but taking three days will be easier if you are new to towing. Sites are plentiful without needing Aires.

Depends what time you arrive in France. Assuming you're using the tunnel then if you're arriving in France around midday then Lac d'Orient as above is recommended by many on here.

If you're arriving fairly early in the morning then the municipal at Beaune should be manageable.

Is your outfit a car and caravan ? Most aires are motorhome only., but the Camping Car Park group does have some 'mon village' sites which are former municipals or similar offering simple, low cost pitches suitable for overnight or longer for caravans and tents in the main season. If you are using Chalons en Champagne as your stopping point there is a good site there - it was a municipal but believe it is a private site now.

Go to Google maps, select the area you want to stop at, zoom in and put campsites in the search box and a number of options will come up, or alternately you can stay on an autoroute aire

Time of crossing / arrival in France likely to have big bearing on where you overnight.
