Hi,
We have stayed on the Southern shore many times, last visit was in 2022.
Our stays have always been at Camping Bella Italia, in Peschiera Del Garda-till last year.
We always go mid May to mid June but this wasn't possible and when we arrived in mid July it was full.
If we were going again BI would still be first choice though due to its location, right on the lake and walking distance to the town.
In May you should be OK, but arrive as early as you can and try to avoid weekends.
If staying we will usually visit Verona, and often Venice, but not the cities-Venice is busy enough thanks!
We are just 35 miles from Plymouth, and tend to depart there often, but if heading East, as you will be, we have used Harwich which has the double benefit of being far cheaper, and it puts you onto toll free roads.
We always have a lake tour, taking the whole day, visiting the high villages on the West bank, Limone, Riva Del Garda then up into the area around Monte Baldo before heading back to PDG with an endless choice of lovely places to visit.
We usually stay for three weeks and even then come home having not done everything we would like to-but then that means we have to go again!

Thanks for the info, but it's about the wrong lake. We have been to Garda, so looking at Maggiore this time.
