I see in another site that this camping has closed and it is doubtful if it will open in 2024. This is a big pita as we use it a couple of times each year in preference to Riva Bella. May have to look at Falaise now.

It was very handy for Caen and Pegasus bridge. Their website says Ferme/closed.
I was looking to use it for a planned tour to st Valery.

Potentially BU**ER!!!!

Looks like site may only be closed for winter season according to their website, which currently states 1 March - 30 September tariffs! Pretty sure they used to be open near year round in the past?

The site's own website home page just declares 'Closed (Ferme) at the moment' without anything in the way of explanation, but tariff page and contacts page still up. Seem to recall it never was a very expansive website!

https://campingdescapucines.com/tarifs

..... BUT, it's dropped off the radar completely on camping site listings like Eurocampings!

https://www.eurocampings.fr/campsite/search/q/place:222936/duree-du-sejour:null/fi........

Only trace I can find elsewhere is old reviews! Doesn't look promising!

Used this site a number of times over the years, both coming and going on ferry as an overnighter, and for longer stays when visiting various D-Day events. Really liked it in pretty much all respects, and it's served us well, don't (or didn't!) even bother to consider other sites as this one suited us so well. Sad loss if it really has gone - might bugger up plans for 2024 visit!

Can't find your original source of info Madasaman, so can't judge by that.

It was mentioned in Caravan Talk forum, but reply to my enquiry email says it all so far.

Thanks for that Madasaman, rather confirms worst suspicions! BU**ER, was hoping beyond hope it was just a misreading/translation error!

Not only got to look for an alternative site now, but the loss of capacity of Des Capuchines puts more pressure on other sites, and it gets worse, normally book well in advance ahead of May/June rush (Le Mans 24 hr race and D-Day anniversary celebrations!), but next year's trip will depend on how a mate has recovered from cancer treatment which has only just started, so it will be a last minute booking if at all!

We are booked over on the 15th May return on 7th June so may get caught up in the D Day celebrations. May have to alter the return, although ferry is booked.

Altered our return to go from Cherbourg, at least there are more sites close to the Port. Midday boat instead of 08.30 but happy none the less. I will leave our Aug sailing as is for now and see what happens later when season opens.

Not doing well finding an alternative camp site!!!!

Ideally need one convenient for Ouistreham ferry/D-day celebrations, and for a tent!
Sites seem few and far enough between in the first place, but add in already fully booked (Riva Bella), or not opening 'til after June, or not taking tents, whole plan is going belly up! ..... it can only get worse when we try to book at short notice when we know if we can actually go!

May have to look at hotels (done that before for a single night), or maybe sail from Cherbourg (done that before as well!)

Wasn't planning on taking the caravan, it's not needed for most of our 3 week stay (in a Gite) and just an inconvenience then, no EHU and no solar panel for when we could use it and stay at 'off grid' Le Mans circuit campsite for under a week so likely to have flat battery problems then, and it bumps up the ferry fare and the need for 2 pitches (only tent sized pitches! - need 2 for caravan!) at Le Mans - too much expense for just two of us to cover, and the only potential campsite out of Le Mans week has minuscule difficult to access pitches that many visitors complain bitterly about it seems!!! Not the best option by any means!

Looking like 'Plan Mk 6' in the making! Already changed plans several times 'cos one mate decided his troublesome replacement hip wasn't up to camping, then again after others dropped out and skewed the economy of numbers, now all up in the air until we know if mate's cancer treatment is over (potentially will run up to a week or so before departure!) and he's fit enough to go!.... as plans go, this one just keep falling over at every opportunity, and Des Capucines has not really helped!

We have booked into Camping*** Le Lac des Charmilles<br /> Route de Vire - 50160 Torigny Les Villes for 2 nights 4th and 5th June. Not too far away from the landing beaches. We are not intentionally visiting these but since Capucines is closed we changed ferry to Cherbourg and booked this site to ensure we had somewhere to stay before sailing back.

We have booked into La Ferme at Lion Sur Mer for the night prior to our return sailing.

That's good news, I like that site, and always proved very convenient for our plans.

Sadly, no longer have use for any French campsite this year, a mate's cancer/treatment, and another mates wife's health issues has put the kibosh on this years 'lads' D-Day anniversary/Le Mans 24Hr motor race/Impressionism painting anniversary trip altogether!

Maybe get to do something next year ....

We didn't bother trying to book Camping Des Capucines and stayed at Lion Sur Mer. Great site, toilet block and showers immaculate. Gate was opened at 06.30, so morning sailing no problem. Although today the Mont St Michel must have been near full capacity. Had an email saying booking in was starting at 05.45 and last check in would be 07.45. That didnt happen as the roads to the ferryport were bumper to bumper. Ship sailed about an hour late.
