We are looking at staying somewhere close to the canal du midi next June - more inland than at the coast perhaps slightly west or east of Carcassonne. We’ll have our bikes so looking for a sites with access to the cycle paths along the canal. We like quiet sites with a small pool and bar area for a drink in the evening though this isn’t a must.

One of the few campsites actually on the canal bank is Camping le Radel at Avignonet Lauragais near Castelnaudary, But it is a very small municipal site - grassy with trees, toilets, showers and electricity, but may be too simple for you as it does not have the other facilities you are asking for. Evening drinks will be at a bar in the village, and swimming at the attractive Lac de Ganguise a few km away. It isn’t a campsite which needs booking in advance - just a site to go in without a reservation whenever it is open, stay a few days and move on.

A bit further along, try Villeneuve-lès-Beziers.

It is right on the canal side cycle path, and is not too big, has restaurants adjacent and is in staggering distance to a large wine shop

We stayed at Villeneuve-les-Beziers some years ago, when my daughter and I were walking the path along the Canal. We found it a very "French" site (which we love, but not everyone does). The situation is great and, at that time, the bar was across the path on a boat moored on the canal. The only thing I will say is that the roadways within the site are quite tight and a motor mover is definitely beneficial. The year we stayed, new owners had only moved in in the previous few days, so it might be very different now.

You might like La Commanderie at Rustiques, (near Trebes) - not actually on the Canal du Midi but a short ride away. Nice site, not too busy, pool and restaurant, some very big pitches. Nice owners. /

Some lovely restaurants along the quay at Trebes (meet us there for lunch one day?). Friends stay there regularly on our recommendation.

It was closed for a while following flooding one year, but is now fully open again.

You may also like Camping Municipal at Capestang - a simple municipal site, within a few steps of the Canal du Midi, and with plenty of bars and restaurants in Capestang itself - some of which we eat at regularly. Lild supermarket nearby, also an Intermarche, and a nice Cave Co-operative.

I’ve checked all of the suggestions out and at the minute the one at Rustiques ticks most of our boxes and the reviews are good. The the Municipal at Capestang is also a possibility but I can’t find any info on pricing or whether there’s 6, 10 or 16 amp electric but a quick email will no doubt answer my question. Val A, definitely up for a lunch should we end up in the same area at the same time 😄.

The pricing was 7 euros for the pitch, plus 3 per person and 3 for electricity. I don't remember any issues with 'enough' ampage, but then we're not heavy users.

There's also the campsite at Lezignan Corbieres, but that isn't very near the canal.

Another thought is Les Peupliers at Colombiers. We stayed for 3 or 4 nights in 2018. Small, but close to the canal. Has a pool and a large play area/ climbing frame. Friendly owners. See my review.

It's a very good cycle ride up to Agens on the canal and Holms. Fantastic restaurant "La Guingette" at Agens, good food and very cheap

I think Stuart means Argens-Minervois and Homps! (Easy misake to make at your age, Stuart!) The restaurant La Guingette is one we often visit, and the food is really good.

Had aother thought this morning, Camping L'Olivigne. It's a newly refurbished site, where we thought about taking our caravan, and visited when it first opened after the work was finished, and went back last year. Nice pool. Open setting, but newly planted trees are now big enough to give some shade. Lovely area offering the Canal du Midi nearby, but lesser known than many other nearby sites.
