Trying to find rescue/ recovery for car and caravan. Can easily get it for short term, 30 days seems to be default time scale, but long term is proving difficult. We have 2 trips planned (France and Spain) both will be around 60 days each. Anyone got suggestions, ideas.

If you are a member of the CAMC then Red Pennant would cover multi trips of no more than 66 days each, home to home.

If you’re in either of the caravan clubs, they offer what you are looking for. Red Pennant in particular (through the C&MC) comes highly recommended, though not the cheapest.

Driver Guardian covers vehicle and caravan for up to 90 days (or 120 days by negotiation). We've used them for about three years. Haven't called them out - but then most breakdown insurance is probably never used, and even those with the best reputation such as Red Pennant get bad reviews sometimes. Prices are reasonable - at least we think so.

European Assistance
Cover will be provided within Europe where the maximum Duration of any single trip does not exceed 90 Days or120 Days (as detailed on your policy schedule) in any one consecutive 12 month policy period.

We have a Nationwide Flexplus account which gives European breakdown cover as one of its goodies. Under section D1 to D7 of the policy there is no mention of time limit.

However if your stay is greater than that allowed under Schengen, then you may have problems

Val, do they also cover your caravan, even though it has not started from the UK? We don't plan to tow this year, but aim to do so in the future.

Maybe i've not read it right, but that is single trip when the OP asked about a multi trip policy.
Of course they could take out two single trip policies.

Not sure about that one, but Red Pennant specifically excludes trips which don't start in the UK. It's a question we must ask on renewal, but they do know that it's stored in France. To be perfectly honest it's worth so little now that if there was any argument we would just scrap it, if untowable or get our storage site to take it back into storage if it can be towed.

Like plenty of others we 'live in hope'! I'm not going to stress about foreseeing any possible eventuality and worrying and stressing about it.

OH does it, but I'm pretty sure he just lets them know when we're going and the likely length of the trip. Most years that's one long trip (around 87 days) and a shorter trip of six to eight weeks.

Thanks for replying, went with Eurobreakdown.com. Be cautious with links from CCC, turned out expensive and you can get it cheaper direct.

Check the small print whatever you get. When I broke down last October my car breakdown insurance (no caravan) was far more limited than I had anticipated.

They would only bring the car back if the value of it less the cost of any repairs needed was more than the cost of the repatriation.

I have a Landrover - it took 2 weeks to get it diagnosed at a main dealership because no other mechanic would look at it so you could add a 0 onto the cost of any repairs there. They wouldn't consider looking at a repat until it had been diagnosed (no idea what they'd have done if it took longer than 2 weeks as that was the cut off for making a decision). If the value was less than the costs they would kindly scrap it at their expense.
I had a quote from a company my sister used for a repat a few years before of £4000ish.

Apart from 1 policy that I've found none of the others online guarantee that they'll bring the car back. Which is fine if you have a new/high value car but it is worth considering what might happen if something like a turbo goes in your car when you're away - you will have no control over the costs and it might tip the balance.

I have a friend who says her green flag promises to bring the car back if it's less than 10 years old - mine isn't any more and I couldn't find that guarantee when I looked.

The policy I've found is a one off RAC insurance. It's quite expensive but in comparison to the £2 it cost us to go and get my car in November it's cheap. The car might not be worth much to the insurance company but to us it's worth the cost of the car we'll need to buy to replace it.

If there are any others out there that will guarantee repat I'd love to know

Red Pennant covers up to 90 days on single trip policy
Best insurance going but not cheap and the level of cover surpasses any other policies on the market
