For the past 10yrs I have been touring Europe for 90 days in my Toyotah Noah 1996 campervan and getting European Breakdown Cover from CompareBreakdownCover for about £130
Last week my dear old camper had to be scrapped.
I am looking to purchase a new van and , in preparation , i am checking out insurance quotes and breakdown cover quotes on various vans.
For these quotes i am just putting in the reg of vans i have not purchased yet. Many are in the the years 2004 - 2007 range.
MOST of the European Breakdown cover sites , offering 90 days are refusing cover for ANY van over 16yrs of age.
I have found RAC and AA offering single trip covers in the £350 range and ETA in the £250 area.
Having spent an hour at this , I thought it would be quicker to ask YOU guys for your input , to see if i can get a resolution faster.
WHERE DO YOU GUYS get your European Breakdown cover of 90 days ( or more ? ) FOR VEHICLES OVER 16YRS OLD , and what price do you pay ?
Many thanks,
Steve
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Goodie packs offered by banks will often include European breakdown.
We used Nationwide flexplus account. There is no restriction on age of vehicle nor on the duration of the period of foreign travel, providing of course that the vehicle is safe and legal to drive and the period falls under the Shengen limits. We paid £17 per month for the goodie package which also includes travel insurance, phone replacement and home emergency cover.
I think you will find that the 31 day problem is for travel insurance, the breakdown is separate Flexiplus Breakdown
There is no mention of trip duration restrictions.Under section 3 it says
Trip: Your entire overseas European journey* (including direct travel between your
home to the seaport or Eurotunnel terminal that you are departing or arriving
back at).
*Travel from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland is included and
commences as soon as you leave home
We used this in France when we normally were traveling for 3 months at a time.

at SGThomas , thanks for that info.
i bank with Nationwide and i remember a few years ago I telephoned them and asked them if there was any limitation on European Breakdown Cover Durations and they told me it was 31 days and there was no way to extend it .
I see what you are saying , so , perhaps their policy changed since i looked 6 or 7 years ago.
i will give them a call tomorrow
Thanks
Steve
i still have no news from Nationwide. Will update when I receive it.
Otherwise it , found this .... We are now able to arrange BREAKDOWN/ACCIDENT ASSISTANCE (good quality provider, no limit on time in Europe and UK, no limit to age of car) for a fee of £240.00. This is only available for vehicles up to 5.5 metres in length. We now feel that clients do not need to feel exposed when stranded by Accident or Breakdown. If you require information on the scheme please advise, or click on the "Breakdown Cover" Button at www.stuartcollins.com. They also do van insurance , which covers any number of days in Euope , which is good , as Adrian Flux have dropped down from 90 days to 60 days now.
