We are booked on the overnight Newhaven - Dieppe ferry on Saturday 8th June. My booking details show departure as 23.00, with last check in 45 minutes beforehand. I have seen a number of mentions of 22.00 departure on this route, so I am wondering whether the information I have is in French time rather then BST.

Can anyone clarify this please?

The ferry departures times at Newhaven aren't always the same, it depends on what time high tide is. I would just go online & double check.

I think it’s probably pretty safe to assume it’s not French time.

Pretty sure ferry departure/arrival times are LOCAL times, unless otherwise indicated.

Of the hundreds of crossings I've done, on that basis, never missed one yet, or arrived unexpectedly!

To quote DFDS "Dieppe-Newhaven: Times may vary depending on the tides."

Always worth a double check of latest sailing info, occasionally schedules get altered after booking.

From experience, DFDS like to board early and leave early. They started boarding about 5am for a 7am sailing; left the dock at 6.45!

The website shows 11pm.
I always arrive far too early for everything so it wouldn't be a problem. There isn't much (anything) to do at the terminal but there are toilets and there is a supermarket and a McD within easy walking distance for food/hot coffee

Local times, and varies so much because there is quite a differential in tides, and the depth of the sea. The ferry has to leave at optimum tide times, which can vary by several hours.

Just been and come back on this crossing. No problems coming back, but a VERY VERY slow disembarketion at the Dieppe side. From being instructed to start the engine it took 70 minutes before we got through passport control at the Dieppe end!

Oh well, a good book and a packet of sweeties I guess!

Was that an overnight crossing Val?

No, it was a 5.00 pm sailing as we were going to see friends in Normandie. It wasn't crowded though - unlike the overnight crossing on Friday, which was absolutely full, with people trying to sleep everywhere. It was half-term, so to be expected. The boat was also VERY cold, so take warm clothes, pillows, blanket, etc., if you don't have a cabin. *The duvets are quite thin too, so an extra blanket wouldn't go admiss! We had a 'free' cabin on our last trip, when our cat had to be cancelled at the last minute, so they transferred the payment for the cat to a cabin!
